Universal FMC: Waypoint Altitude?

Hi,

I seem unable to change the altitudes assigned to waypoints.

For instance, the 25000 that seems to appear automatically in the RSK column for en route waypoints cannot be changed to anything else.

Has anyone any ideas?

Thanks,

Fabio

Hi Fabio

On my few test flights using the FMS, I found the VNAV function (or lack of it!) quite frustrating, particularly being used to properly functioning Boeing FMCs in PMDG, Quality Wings and iFly airliners. I'm not sure there is a work-around for the VNAV element and given that it was essentially non-functional I have switched the the GTN for navigation purposes.

Hi,

I’m not expecting any VNAV, just the ability to change the altitudes entered by the Carenado FMC for envroute waypoints.

Clicking any of the RSK keys does nothing, and I kind of find the default altitude of “28000” a bit offensive hence my desire to change it at least to my enriute altitude.

yah Fabs, it's really a useless FMC i'm afraid beyond some waypoints. Because I enjoyed the actual aircraft so much I just went ahead and bought the GTN750 and with Bert's mods it's really great to fly and navigate with now.

Overall, the aircraft is quite nice (with the exception of the death dive when changing the IAS climb speed!).

Yes I tried the IAS hold once without really reading any information on it first and the result was similarly interesting and I haven't tried it since! I agree though, this is one of Carenado's best yet (leaving aside the FMS) and even better it you add Bert's GTN mods.

... and if you don’t have payware GTN your only choice is to live with that Universal FMS, right?

Unfortunately that may be the only choice. I think there may be some freeware FMCs out there but I have no experience of them and don't know if they would even synchronise with the F50 autopilot.

To be fair to the Universal FMS it functions quite well in LNAV mode apart from the fact that it doesn't allow you to enter an airway which might mean a little more time spent inputting waypoints. However when you do that, you can have a very nice flight and it is easy to use the ASEL, ALT and VS modes on the AP to manage climbs and descents. I don't see lack of functioning VNAV as a big issue (and indeed the GTN itself does not have any VNAV capability!) but when the an FMS is meant to have that function then it is frustrating when it doesn't work properly.

The bottom line however is that this is a really nice aircraft.
