FSD Installation problems

Featured Replies

So I waited for about a week for a response from FSD but none has been forthcoming. I guess I am excommunicated for ever. This is a pity because I enjoyed the three years or so that I had the Cheyenne and the year or so with the Porter. Never mind, there are plenty of Payware (and freeware) aircraft out there whose authors don't accuse one of being a criminal. So I will leave it there.I just thought I would pass on that as far as I can see the erronous detection of what FSD refer to as "Illegal KeyGen" and hacking programs is just that - erronous. I tried a system restore to the point immediately after I installed XP and still got the same message. Another victim had suggested that booting to safe mode might help - it doesn't.Incidentally is wasn't until I started looking around on various forums that I discovered I was not alone, up until then I had seriosly considered berating my 16 year old son and/or re-installing XP - I am glad I did not.I would add that none of the other licensed software I have transferred from my old operating system (Win2000) to my new (XP) has had any problems at all.My job is customer support for a small software company and part of that job is the issuing of licenses, they can be tricky at times and require some effort, so I found this remark from another thread on the subject rather approriate:"Good customer support is not fixing the easy problems but dealing with the difficult ones"I will close by wishing FSD (as they did me in their last email) "Good luck for the future"Geoff

Sounds you might have got caught doing something and want to start a beef over here. My experience has been if you work with developers in a reasonable fashion, FSD included, they will work with you. If your demeanor was similar to this rant I think it is easy to see why they are not communicating with you.Rob MorrisonFS Enthsiast

"If your demeanor was similar to this rant I think it is easy to see why they are not communicating with you."Rob,I don't see anything wrong with his demanor in this post. In the past 24 hours I've shown a poor demeanor here. Not this thread--nothing of the sort seems shown by the thread's author. There's been a number of posts by people who have said something quite similar. I've never experienced that with any vendor, including FSD, but I know it can happen and some of the posts here are by well known members who are credible in my book.-John

I just get tired of people using the public forums to pursue their private vendettas. You see this stuff all the time aimed mostly at addon makers, and sometimes at individuals. I think people should just squabble amongst themselves and let us talk about flight sim.Rob MorrisonFS Enthsiast

I don't think the member is on a vendetta Rob. Add-ons are an essential part of Flightsim for members here in the forum. Maybe not for your rank 'n file user who picks up the sim in Walmart, but certainly for us crazed enthusiasts here. I've seen so many members post this same issue, and I know if it were to ever happen to me, I'd be here making the same post. But working in the software industry, I'd probably take it further than that if a vendor ever falsely accused me of hacking their copy protection. Sometimes these issues are clouded against the vendor because we're not privy to the exact wording of the exchange between member and vendor. I do know that many times vendors have had the incentive to fix these issues due to posts like this one, where a member takes the issue public because they feel they have no outlet. That's why the forums are here.-John

A little OT but, do you own a red NSX? Or, ever held a world jet ski title? - Doug

There is no way for any of us to know the truth. My point is that it's easy to make accusations in forums. I also know there is a lot of pirated software and "key generators" like this guy is talking about. And he says he is not the only one using his computer. So I can't help but think accusations are being made without any foundation. What I do know for sure is that it would be best resolved among the parties. All we can do is speculate about it.Rob MorrisonFS Enthsiast

Thanks. It was a longshot but I just had to ask. - Doug

I would be happy if I could just get my password to access the forums. Its been a couple days since I applied for permission to look at them.

Ho-hum...another developer bash. :-roll If you do a search you find all kinds of "dirt" on all kinds of developers. Most of them get erased because the trolls come out of the woodwork and turn it into a flame thread. Which is good they get removed I think. And in my experience most of them are bogus. I own a lot of titles from this and other developers who get flamed here, and I know a lot of people in the hobby that do as well. Funny how these things never seem to happen to any of us. Personally I find it a little hard to believe that all these developers are spending their valuable time on some kind of inquisition. So I suspect if you heard the other side of the story too the whole thing would read differently.I always take these anonymous accusations with a grain of salt. Maybe there is some truth to it and maybe its completely made up. The only thing I know is there is always two sides to every story. I agree with the guy above. Take the allegations to the party involved.

I registered a couple weeks ago and had no problem. Make sure you use a good e-mail address otherwise you won't receive your password. I found that out when I tried to use a Yahoo e-mail address. Like Avsim here and a lot of other forums you can't use online e-mail addresses.Rob MorrisonFS Enthsiast
