March 15, 20188 yr Flight from Kingston, Jamaica, to Port Au Prince, Haiti. February 13th. Fat Tuesday. Yes. I have been consumed with other matters the past three weeks and falling behind on posting about this trek. So just now catching up! Taking an extra minute to understand the clearance. It was mostly overcast and our departure off Rwy 26 has us climbing quickly then turning 180° to the right to climb over rising terrain. Our final destination today, Ponce, Puerto Rico, is some 600 nm and with a headwind our total flight time is approximately five and a half hours. So we have planned a fuel stop at Port Au Prince, Haiti. We will be contributing to the hurricane Irma recovery efforts while in Puerto Rico, and tonight there is a big festival in Ponce. Climbing over picturesque Kingston Harbour as we start our right turn, Kingston city off our right wing. Just before we climb into the overcast we get a good look at Norman Manley International Airport behind us. You can see how the airport is situated in the harbour in this shot. A good look at the terrain of east central Jamaica. Our flight path takes somewhat along the south coast of Jamaica. Though our path is straight we find ourselves sometimes over land and other time over water. Out over what is known as the Jamaica Channel, between Jamaica and Haiti. We can just now begin to make out Haiti through the haze. On final into Port-au-Prince. This is our refueling stop at Toussaint Louverture International Airport in Port Au Prince. We will not be here long enough to see anything local as our goal is to make the final evening of the Carnaval de Ponce in Puerto Rico this evening. The fuel truck drove to the wrong plane! LOL! Stay tuned soon for Part Two of this Puerto Rico trip. With one of my next posts in this series I will post a real life photo or two of the water around the island I am visiting. This has become quite time consuming, but quite interesting and educational.
