Greetings!

I am a new member and wanted to introduce myself. My name is Gunnar, I am retired military and my son is an aspiring pilot. He is 16 and should solo coming up later this spring. We are having tech problems with his Saitek Pro Yoke System running on Windows 10 64 bit. Where would be the most appropriate place to post a tech question asking for help with a non-op yoke?

Thanks!

Welcome to AVSIM!  I've moved your post to the Hardware and Controller forum.  This is the best place for hardware/controller help.

OK thanks much!

My teenage son has a gaming PC (Windows 10 64 bit) that he uses for flying using his Saitek Pro Flight Yoke System. Recently I did a Windows update and the yoke suddenly went dark after the update. I uninstalled the software and reloaded with no change. I then uninstalled and downloaded the new Flight Yoke System Software on the Logitech website and tried again. When I plug in the yoke system, it seems to only recognize the rudder pedals and engine controllers because they have a green light but the yoke is still not responding. When prompted to plug in the USB for the yoke system, it is not recognizing it. I went to device manager and it shows up as "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed). When I tried to update the driver, it tells me the most recent driver is already installed. Sure would appreciate anyone's input here... I am not a Windows guy and my son needs this running for his upcoming pilot test.

I don't know if this will be of any help...but I have a Logitech Joystick (2nd one, first one went bad after 5 years).  I don't use any downloaded drivers for it but there is a "Logitech Profiler" that was on a disc that came with the first joystick.  Check to see if that is still available from the Logitech site.

I had went on the Logitech message boards and posted the problem. One of their tech's responded with the following:

---Hello dadofapilot,

Please do the following:

With your Device plugged in directly to your PC via a USB 2.0 port, go to Device manager and find your Yoke under Human Interface Devices. If you do not see your device, please click “View” and then “Show Hidden Devices”

Right Click on the Yoke and click “Uninstall Driver”. Do this on anything showing as Saitek.

Unplug your Device

Restart your PC

Go to http://support.logitech.com/en_us/product/flight-sim-yoke-system/downloadsand download and run the Yoke Installer.

Go to Device Manager and find your stick/yoke or a device showing as Unknown Device or as the right Device.

Right click and select “Update Driver”

Choose “Browse my Computer for Driver”

In the path box, type C:\windows\winsxs and hit enter. This should install the driver generically or if you have the drivers installed will fix, then you can run the Saitek driver installer to complete the setup.

---My response to him is as follows:

This did not work. I got to step #5 and tried to run but just as before when it prompts me to plug in the yoke USB, I receive this message. "The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it."

If I try to update the driver of the unknown device, just as before it tells me the best driver is already installed even after using the path you told me to use.

I am at a stand still until Windows can recognize the yoke system when I plug it in...

Hi Gunnar,

Possibly no help, but are you able to swap out the yoke? I mean physically plug it into another PC to see if the yoke actually still works, or can you borrow another yoke to try on your PC. You sure no one's accidentally knocked the yoke and jerked the USB cables? It may just be a cruel coincidence that the yoke crapped out right around the time you did the update... stranger things have happened..

Good luck!

Are there several other USB devices plugged in? Try unplugging all but the Yoke and see if the Yoke works. There may be a conflict somewhere. If it's still not working, then Mark's suggestion of trying it with another computer would be next.
