March 24, 20188 yr Hi all, Been following this forum for a while - I'm pretty much ready to purchase a VR headset, and was almost going to get the Rift but am now considering importing the Odyssey - would welcome thoughts on that and whether there's much noticeable improvement in resolution? But my main query relates to the fact that in my current P3D 4.2 setup I use a 2nd PC for weather, VATSIM, flight planning etc.. - and suddenly realised that in a VR world I can't see that monitor!! So, how have others dealt with this? Is it a case of using FlyInside where I believe you can dock a window into the sim (which could be TeamViewer of the other PC if you get me?) Any advice or comments welcome Cheers CB Intel i7 7700K @5.1Ghz, 32Gb DDR4, P3D v5.3 / MSFS running on Samsung 970evo plus Nvme SSD, Nvidia RTX2080ti Samsung 55" curved 4KHDR display, Oculus Rift CV2
March 26, 20188 yr ....I do not have and do not like to use Controllers and my Mouse is disabled for most of the time, (XP11), I have all fiscal instrument include G500, I left a small gap between the Headset nose bridge an the nose, and I since don't fly a Cpmlex AC, so I remember & can sense all the switches/buttons and their location, not perfect but it does work ... my main issue is the fact that I can't have my reading glasses on so I can't read the charts on my Tablet, I'm waiting for the one that will come with Adjustable Diopter lenses
March 27, 20188 yr The only VR experience i have sofar is with FSX:SE, FlyInside and the Rift so based on that i can say this: Just as IRL you can do much of the prep work before boarding the aircraft. Once boarded you can open multiple windows that float in 3D space. So, these can be your PDF with flight plan, approach charts, load sheet etc.. You can then reposition and rescale. I suppose any window would do, also a window that represents a remote session to another computer although i have not tested that. If it works, which i suspect it will, then i don't see how there would be much to benefit from that running on another CPU unit. After all, the window still needs to be rendered on the computer hosting the sim and FlyInside anyway. So my feeling is that it is irrelevant unless you have a really slow computer. But feel free correct me if i'm mistaken. One thing i do not like is the tendency of the floating windows to slightly re-position when changing views. You can dedicate a joystick button to re-center everything again and start over (it's done fairly quickly). Then again, just as IRL a pilot would STAY in the cockpit instead of tele-port to the airport tower, the tow truc, seat 34F like I do all of the time:) - So, stay seated on your captain's seat and you will be OK. When teleporting with views, be prepared for having to do some re-adjustments. I do not know how this behaves in other sims though. I have found AeroFly FS2 to be the more eye-appealing (brighter) and better performing VR sim but I find it limited in its flying characteristics, flight operation (unlimited fuel) and places to visit. Also, no floating windows like you get with FlyInside as far as i can tell.
