Can you ID The Plane in this 1957 or 1959 Photo?

Featured Replies

This plane was taken on a grass field in or near Metz France associated with RCAF No1 Fighter Wing. It is a screenshot from my fathers old 8mm movie.

Dad died recently and I'm working to put the pieces together of his military life.

Gratefully,

I've been at this for hours.

I think I might have narrowed it down.

YA....that's it!! Nice find.

Thank you, Thank you.

So, I have 1959 video of my father, cranking the prop and taxing and taking off on what I think I have identified as Doncourt Les Conflans (LFGR) France.

The following week I was to go up flying with dad and in between a fellow colleague took the plane up and crashed upon take off. I recall my father as saying the guy died in the crash. A random search just pulled up this: I can't believe the info one can find on the internet. This is so cool to be able to piece this bit of history together.

According to this website, it was even featured in a 1955 movie called 'Escapade'.

How the heck do you find this stuff...this is truly fantastic.

I found the movie, its available on uTube, one part involve some guys stealing the plane from a local flying club, 37 min mark and 38 min mark are take off and flyby's.

You're most welcome! :)

No secret, just an efficient and aggressive use of search engines.

Hi Bryan,

My condolences for the loss of your dad. Real life can really hurt, but we line up into the wind and move forward.

Thoughts and prayers are with you.

Stephen
