Default Maule improved flight model available?

Hi everybody,

I'm searching for some tweaks for the default Maule. Does anybody know if there is a source for a better flight model? Or is there somebody willing to share his optimizations? Or other tweaks?

I found a lot about this topic in the internet, but always the suggestion is to use another aircraft. This is not the solution I'm looking for. Apart from some issues, the default Maule is not so bad for beginners, in my opinion. Unfortunately I have no knowledge how to do improvements to the flight model, and no access to real data.

Cheers, Rudi

Hi Rudi,

OMG - too funny - a while back I was trying to use the Maule out of some unimproved state forestry strips in Idaho - couldn't get it off the ground in the allotted distance - probably 1200 feet or so - switched to the A2A Cherokee 180 and it got off the ground just fine - anyone even vaguely familiar with Maules STOL capabilities realizes how truly absurd that is... I'd certainly be interested if anyone has taken the time to rework this FDE... Best of luck...

Regards,
Scott

Hi Scott,

notably at higher altitudes the performance of the default Maule brakes down. Sounds for me like you tested at one of these higher elevated USFS strips like 3U1 (5896 ft MSL). During short tests I got the impression that if general flight model realism settings at max (which I normally use) resulted in a somewhat 'spongy' behaviour. Did not test that in detail so far. But I published a video, see

This recording of a life stream shows a takoff form a short river bank (sea level) at the beginning. Similar landings/takeoffs later in the video. Takeoff roll is really long.

With some minor tweaks, this aircraft might be a good solution for first steps in bush flying. Although this seems to be not very popular amongst flight simmers at the moment, times might change.

Cheers and thanks for your comments, Rudi

Would be nice. It's my favorite default airplane and I am using it for flying around TrueEarth Netherlands. Apart from an update of the flight model I'd also like to see a more high res update of the cockpit: looks a bit low res and cheap.

Gave up on flying default aircraft decades ago.
