How do I close the cowling...?

Featured Replies

I have just downloaded the lovely Tiger Moth I read about on the Review Page here. However, it is sitting on the runway with the right hand cowling open & I can find no way of closing it. Does someone know how to, please? Settings 'Assignements' lead me to try Ctrl/shift/C but that doesn't work. Many thanks,Terry W.

Not sure which plane you have but try SHIFT+E release then 2. That works on Bill Lyon's Tiger Moth.Bud

Thanks Bud - trouble is it doesn't. Doing that gets me the pilot & a message at the top of the screen saying Open or Closed. I might have to reinstall................? I can't use it with the cowling & door open all the time! Other than that it's a nice little flyer.Terry.

Cowling:ctrl+shift+cctrl+shift+v

Thanks but that doesn't work.I loaded it (Lyons Tigermoth, that is) into another computer (lower spec) & ctrl/shift/2 works but sporadically. I still can't get it to work so I've deleted it from this (Dell Dimension 9150 with Gforce 6800) & will try again!

Shift+E then 2 should work but getting the timing down is sometimes hard for people. The command is actually the one used for opening the secondary exit. Try holding the SHIFT ket and hitting the E key then releasing both and immediately hitting the 2 key.Bud

Check your keyboard assignments. Check to see if anything is assigned to "open cowl flaps" and "close cowl flaps"...those functions should exist in the assignments. CTRL+SHIFT+C and CTRL+SHIFT+V are typical.Rhett

First of all forget about trying to open the Cowl Flaps. The Tiger Moth doesn't have them. We are talking about opening the engine cowling on the right hand side and the pilot's doors. This is how you do it (assuming we are talking about Bill Lyons' plane):Go to Spot view so you can see what is happening. Press Shift and then (while holding down shift) press E.This puts the pilot in his seat. Then press Shift and then (while holding down shift) press E, then let go of both keys and press 2 (on the main keyboard, not on the numeric keypad on the right). The Pilot's doors and the engine cowling will close. The same keypress sequence will open them again.(Well it works for me!)

Yes - Bill Lyon's Moth.I can get the pilot popping in to the seat by pressing Shift + E, along with a message Exit Open. Repeating this plus 2 STRIAGHT AWAY does nothing except get me Exit Closed with the pilot doing a vanishing act.I have spent 1/2 an hour doing the above to no avail, plus downloading & reinstalling twice, but nothing gets the door or cowling to close. I have now deleted this lovley aircraft as I cannot use it with the cowling & door open & am using an Assie Moth instead. :-(Thanks for your suggestions,Terry.

I found that I was trying to hit the 2 key too soon after the shift/e key. I takes about 1 full second to operate mine.

WELL.........I suddenly thought What if my keyboard is faulty? I tested it & it's not, & that led me to go into Settings & I spotted the Keyboard Default tick box & went for it & Bingo, ctrl/E/2 works like a charm. so - now I have 2 Moths to play with & one has skids/skis :-)Terry.

Beats climbing out there and doing it by hand while in flight :-)
