Scenery.cfg area/layer limits

Featured Replies

Can someone tell me why I can only get 42 areas/layers in scenery.cfg ?I have checked thro' the file & all layer & area numbers are correct. When I add some new scenery to Add-on scenery it overwrites the last entry in the cfg. file. I tried making the entry manualy giving the next number in sequence but after running FS9 I checked the cfg. file & the new entry has gone.:-hmmm

Very strange.... Never had that happen before.Suggestion:Open scenery.cfg manually.Check that the various layer numbers are consecutive and correct. It may be necessary to check that the layer numbers are correct starting with the first layer. Make sure you check both layer numbers in each group to be sure they agree.I always add scenery layers manually rather than doing it with FS9 running.

Hi Howard, thanks for the reply. Yes I had already checked the layer & area numbers & sequence. I also haven't come accross this before,it was only after installing on a new PC that this happened. However, I have now solved it. I printed the CFG. file then deleted it & typed it all back in, so there must have been some unseen chars. in the spaces.:-)

Hi there, for the future I suggest using a tool like Steve Greenwood's scenery.cfg file checker. It checks for errors and realigns layers and area numbers without affecting priority settings. And it takes literally two seconds to run ;-)http://www.fs-traveler.com/resources-g.shtml (3rd link from the top)Cheers, Holger

The docs seem to be only for FS2002.* Orest

Hi Orest, sorry, should have mentioned this: yes it does. I've been using it regularly with FS9 for a couple of years and never had any problems.Cheers, Holger
