Weird flashing shadows in v4.3

Featured Replies

About three days ago I updated my Client from v4.2 to v4.3. I will note that is all I did. Some folks clear their shader folder, others delete the .cfg file but I pretty much did a “plug and play” after updating. I have noticed over the past few flights I have done that I get weird shadow flashing and shadows disappearing, or quickly reappearing. Today while on approach into KIDA, there was a thick broken layer above the airport so naturally it would be kinda dull as the airport wasn’t in direct sunlight. Well I guess I was too focused on the approach and wasn’t paying attention to my surroundings so I am not exactly sure if the cloud shadow was already present or not, but out of nowhere my outside environment flashed and the shadow from the looming clouds just appeared. Like the hadn’t been there the whole time. I didn’t have these issues in v4.2 so I was hoping maybe someone else is experienceing the same thing?

That's a problem that has been extent in P3d for several major versions now. Some people never see it at all and although it's been reported to LM, they've never commented on whether they can reproduce it. The lack of response indicates to me that the cause is a faulty 3rd party add-on or possibly a combination of add-ons that are conflicting.

Personally, I can go months and never see the cloud shadow problem and then for some unknown reason it happens. It seems more prevalent at low sun angles in hilly terrain and with complex cloud structures as those that are used in Active Sky Cloud Art and REX Skyforce.

That could explain it. I have cloud shadows turned all the way up, and I use AS16+SF for my weather engine and cloud textures. The clouds that day were very complex. Yesterday night I did delete my shader folder and rebuilt it and honestly I hasnt helped any. I’ll just chock this up as a v4.3 “bug” and move on lol.

I've tried tinkering with all the shadow settings in P3d and once the problem arises, nothing will stop it, except time.

I’ve been testing and turning on Particle shadows seemed to have helped so far. Needs more testing...
