Default C208B Performance

Recommended Posts

Hi all.
This may have (or probably has) been asked and answered before, but here goes nothing:
The performance of the FSX-SE default C208B, like some other default planes, seems fairly anemic compared to real-life specs. I am not an aircraft.cfg or .air file expert, but wouldn't mind learning at least the basics of flight performance tweaking.
Having said that, what I am looking for ATM is a modified pair of files, or the necessary entries I'd need to make in order to bring this wonderful plane to spec.
Even better would be having a set of the default files and a set of tweaked files so I might see the differences.
The performance of the default doesn't seem to match the output of the 675-hp PT6A-114A engines, much less the up-rated 867-hp PT6A-140s.
Any advice or help in this regard would be gratefully appreciated! 😊
Thanks,
Slammr

FWIW, a quick Google search with the following search terms returns numerous applicable entries.
   tweaking fsx "aircraft.cfg" tutorial

Ex., here's the "Microsoft page" about it in the SDK:

https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc526949.aspx

Good luck... it's not my cup o' tea, but I'd start there if modifying cfg files was my thing.

Most of those default planes are pretty basic in design and for the most part will not perform very near to real life spec's. If the 208 is something you want to fly then you may be better off getting a payware version. Even those may not be 100% to spec due to limitations in the design and code of FSX. It is great that you are looking to learn but it will take some time, dedication and a lot of research. I am 71 Years old and I have been at this hobby for many many years and I would not be able to do what you are wanting. Good Luck to you though.

Aircraft.cfg (same link as above):

Flight dynamics in general:

Hope you have your text books on aircraft design, a real world manual for the C208B (or anything else with performance tables) and your lab coat ready, because this is going to be dirty if you really want to make things realistic.
