Oliver, you have been an Angel sent from heaven.

Ouch. Most certainly not. But thank you.

With P3D V4.0 I just realized that I wanted to use the new method of dropping add-on.xml files into the P3D autodiscovery folder. But there was no practical way to create these XML files without a lot of typing nor to align them properly WRT the rest of the scenery. So I wrote this tool to make my life easier. A few friends were using it too, so I decided to share it.

What the P4AO does WRT to adding scenery:

You have a choice if you want to add it to the scenery.cfg or if you want to add it as an add-on.xml. The tool will either add your new scenery to the cfg or it will create the add-on.xml file for you in the proper place and reference it to the sim. That is pretty much it. Which way you choose is a matter of taste. Please be aware that you don't need a single add-on.xml for every scenery. You can put multiple sceneries into the same package too (and for example organize them by country or continent - makes it easier to keep track).

If I may direct your attention to the Backup & Restore feature - I recommend using that often. Just in case. (Note: the resulting ZIP can not be openend with the Windows Explorer - you need 7Zip or similar).

Best regards

At the moment I am editing in my sceneries folder (different drive) to make sure all my sceneries have just the scenery and/or Scenery and texture folders with nothing else in the folder.

No need for that. P4AO will tell you if they are problematic by painting them violet on the first tab.

Oliver,

I am still editing mate so I have not been back in to the organiser aand  lot of that does not make much sense word not allowed yet in that I cannot relate to it.

You have obviously been around a little longer and been a lot more serious than I have been and I commend you for that. Incredibly helpful information.

Cheers again mate I shall look further into your other downloads as well

Oliver,

I am at a loss as to why "word not allowed" cropped up in that last item of mine.  What I actually said was that it does not make a lot of sense as yet, in that I have not been back to the organiser and I cannot relate to it.

Beats me but please do not think It was me who did that> Is it automatic??

Oliver,

Last (hopefully) question mate.

Do you want to clear the scenery index

I am very unsure of what that is actually going to clear and I dont want to get rid of everything in the library.

I also clicked on scenery config as opposed to the xml ... is this the right thing to do?

Cheers

Tony

Nothing really serious, and not related to the library config. This will prompt P3D to rebuild the scenery index when you start it (those windows with moving progress bars where it says "rebuilding scenery index"). Seemed like a good idea to do that, because P3D sometimes does not seem to "get it" when you make changes to the library. But it isn't strictly necessary - you can turn it off on the "Tools" page

There is no right or wrong - just two different ways of doing the same thing. Using the XMLs is the modern way, but you should first gather more information about what it does. In the Lorby support forum here I have added a small pinned thread which describes how to add legacy scenery that way. Please read it first before diving in.

Oliver,

Thanks matey. I apologise for giving you so much work today.  I will head of to the Forum if I need further help.

You have been wonderful and I cannot thank you enough.  I was nearly in tears just thinking about the uninstall and reinstall dramas AGAIN.

Which is basically why those add-on.xml files are there now (have been since P3D 3.x actually). They enable you to keep all of your addons out of the main simulator folder. It is no longer necessary to drop stuff right into the main sim, worst case overwriting default files where there is no turning back from. Done right, this way of configuring things will even survive a full cycle uninstall - delete P3D folders - reinstall.
