Checklists

Featured Replies

Good evening.

I would appreciate some help: I cannot get Checklists to show up in the Utilities Screen either on the Demo mode or on the FSX SE unit in any aircraft. I've downloaded a couple of 'Ace' files and inserted them into the associated aircraft files. Then I've renamed them: 'checklist.gtn'. I've also made sure that the FPLN folder is in the  "C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Trainers\GTN\FPLN" location.

The second query is similar in that I can't get the 'Garmin Checklist Editor software' to work. I'm using the latest version of Windows 10. I've also tried running the installation in the recommended compatibility mode with no success. I've read some of the early forum answers but they haven't helped.

Thanks, Del

I think I've solved the second problem - I 'right click' and 'run as administrator'! I hope the first issue is as simple!

Hi Del,

please review the FPLN path, it has changed with GTN Trainer v6.50 to:
"C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Trainers\Databases\FPLN"

I'd also suggest you use the 'shortcut' method documented in the User's Manual p9 as well.

Can you give the full path of one such checklist.gtn file you are using?

  Thanks for the quick reply.

I attempted to put the FPLN folder into the databases folder but it wouldn't allow me to do that. Instead I used the 'shortcut' method and that worked. I now have a shortcut to the GTN Flight Plans folder in Documents to  "C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Trainers\Databases\.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX\SimObjects\Airplanes\C172 This is the path to the checklist.gtn file.

Can you please post the content of the RXP log files? (see User's Manual for file/path)

I can't find the location of these files. In 'Documents' I have these:

Those are the log files. You must have (hide extensions for known file types) turned off in your folder options.

This log shall show something like:

"using C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX\SimObjects\Airplanes\C172\checklist.gtn"

Are you sure the check list file (.gtn) is at this location?

reference the correct log file (rxpGtnSim.dll)

Yes, I've double checked and a 'checklist.gtn' file (Ace document 29kb) is at this location. I've also got a similar one in my A2A C182 folder. If I try to open either file then I get a message to say that 'There is a problem with the Aviation Checklist Editor registry. Please re-install and start it again.' As I mentioned earlier I can use the Editor by opening it in Administrator mode.

Thanks, Del

Ok, I think I understand: since you are working in protected system folder, you have to have admin rights to write into it. Therefore, you elect to run a tool as admin. However, in doing so, you also save the file with admin rights. From there, any program not running with admin right will be prevented to open the file because of the admin rights.

DON'T run anything with admin rights unless it is an admin tool. DON'T install anything as admin unless it is an admin tool. Any add-on requiring you to run as admin is not designed for Vista+ and shouldn't be allowed to run at all until the developers make it Vista+/UAC compliant.

Having said this, please create you checklist in a user folder, say "Documents", then copy/paste or drag/drop the file into the final destination. Once acknowledged the UAC prompt, the file should still be accessible.

You can try this with our checklist sample pack:

  1. open "C:\ProgramData\Reality XP\Common\GtnTrainer\"
  2. unzip checklists.zip
  3. pick one of the unzipped .ace file, and drop it into the aircraft folder.

Otherwise, right-click "FSX" folder in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\" folder, then "Properties", then add your user account rights to do 'everything' on this folder and its subfolders.

Good afternoon

I unzipped checklists.zip to a new folder on the desktop, copied and pasted the 172s file to the A/C folder in FSX and renamed it: checklist.gtn - unfortunately even after running FSX it still hasn't worked! I believe that I have also added my user account rights to do everything for the FSX folder.

Can you try with another aircraft in order to cross check?

And all its sub-folders too?

Can you cross-check this again just to make sure?

Hi

I've got Reality XP GTN750 installed as a pop-up window on my A2A B377 and I've pasted a checklist file into it's folder and then renamed it 'checklist.gtn'.

I've also checked permissions on the FSX folder and it includes sub-folders as well.

Thanks Del

(ps It's really not a big issue as I'm very pleased with the product as it is.)

I thank you for your kind words, nevertheless, I'd just like to make sure this is not a bug introduced in the latest build. So far, we can't repro on our end though?!?

What is certain: the gauge looks up the aircraft folder for any such file and tells the GTN trainer, which tells you in its rxpGtnSim.dll.log file about this. Even if the file fails to load, the log will tell it is using a file, and as long as it doesn't show up in the log file, it won't show in the GTN.

This makes me wonder why the gauge is incapable of finding such file on your system? Normally this is related to file/folder access rights, especially if the file is in a system protected folder like "Program Files".

Speaking of this, even if your login name has access rights to the aircraft folder in itself, does it have also access to this particular file?

Hi, I've 'right-clicked' on the 'checklist.gtn file in my aircraft folder and it seems that just about every one has full-control of it!

Should the 'CREATOR OWNER' have any permissions?
