AUTO TANK/ENG

Recommended Posts

I love to do longhauls in my 747 on the weekends.

I usually fly the 777 or 787.

I noticed an option in the 747 to handle the fuel tanks when needed.

I have this option set to auto.

However I keep getting  the yellow message and eventually a fuel imbalance.

Do I need to set Crossfeed before takeoff and then it will do its own thing or am I missing something.

Ive read the manual etc

You need to set the aircraft up as it should be set up for that fuel configuration.

How are you setting your fuel tanks up before attempting to use this function?

I just loaded fuel via the FMC. and I turned on all the required tanks that have fuel in them.

I have not turned on the crossfeed in the tanks at all before takeoff.

Is that the thing im missing?

Sounds like it could be.

Please have a look at the tutorial flight, and also this quick note on TANK/ENG:

https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/503656-fuel-tankeng/

Will do. I think my problem is that since I don't have crossfeed on it's not making the engines equal and the auto tank eng isnt working because there is nothing to then turnoff at that point.

THanks :)

The best/normal way of doing things is to always turn on all the fuel pumps and crossfeeds as part of the before start procedure.

Wait and see whether you get a >FUEL TK/ENG EICAS message.

If so, turn off the override pumps and crossfeeds 1 & 4, the EICAS will clear and away you go.

If not, you are properly configured... so carry on.

I am slightly surprised that you weren't getting an >XFEED CONFIG message, though, but I'd have to double-check the logic that triggers that to be certain.

Great heads-up, Simon, as I too have seen that message flagged on the Queen.
