Fatal Error on Start up

Featured Replies

Was using Sim, made a change in settings, Display from 1920x1200x32 to 1366x768.Rebooted and started FSX.  Got error message, Fatal Error FSX will shut down.

Went into FSX cfg and changed the display setting back to 1900x1200x32.  Same error msg.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Shouldn't there be a 32 after the 768?

And yours was helpful??

OP, take a look in your computer's Events Log and see if you can come up with a faulting module for that crash to desktop.

It's helpful if it gets you to cool your jets and provide helpful information to those seeking it.  I would have thought that would have been obvious.

looks like 14 all the same.  Assume that is the number of times I tried to load FSX.

OK,simprop.dll error is one of the worst ones I can think of.  Is there anything else that you might have done, besides changing the screen resolution (That should not cause errors)?  You didn't do anything crazy like trying a Repair option without removing Sp1 and SP2 or Acceleration?

Have you looked through the AVSIM CTD guide for help?

I was changing resolutions to see if i could notice any difference in the display. That was the only thing I changed. Thanks, I will look at that.

Have you added any scenery recently?  On startup MSFS and P3D always tries to rebuild scenery indexes.  If scenery somewhere is corrupt, it will fail.  The only other thing I can suggest, since you changed the display setting, is to go to your config file, back up the original, then remove the display entry.  FSX will try to add a new one with default settings which you can later change.

Thanks, no new scenery, did rebuild the cfg also.  In reading dll suggested fix, I noticed the comment about the Logbook.  I have tried to locate that file without success.

The file name is FSX Logbook Recovery 1.1

Wow, downloaded the FSX Logbook Recovery ZIP from AVSIM and bingo,  all fixed.

Thanks for all your help.

After getting FSX back, flew a couple of times and checked the logbook,  appears the fix also stopped the logbook from showing anything after 10/9/18..

Not really concerned, do not need the log but wonder if there is a fix.??
