Real world aviation topics

Recommended Posts

Hi.  This phrase is now crossed out in the forum description: real world aviation topics and any other aviation related topics not covered in any other forums.

Is there another place to discuss real world aviation issues?

Thanks.

Dave

Historically, Hangar Chat has been used to discuss real world aviation topics and other topics not necessarily aviation related.

The moderators wanted to steer it towards aviation-only topics, but after many well-reasoned responses by many users, I believe they have decided to let it return to being what it pretty much has been in the past: a general discussion forum for topics that don’t readily fit into other specific forums.

I don’t believe the crossed-out words mean we can’t discuss aviation-related topics here - I think it just indicates that the topics don’t necessarily have to be directly aviation related.

You can now, and always have been, able to discuss real aviation topics on Hangar Chat Dave.  No need for another forum dedicated to real world aviation.   Go ahead and post here.  We are all interested in real aviation,  model aviation and drones, train sims, our compuster and systems, flightsim topics not covered elsewhere, and everyday topics enjoyed by almost everyone.

The tires are worn.  The shocks are shot.  The steering is wobbly.  But the engine still runs fine.

Apologize for the confusion.  The description also includes the sentence, "this forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar", which means to me that, if real world aviation topics are discussed in an airport hangar, then you can discuss them here too so one needs to read the information that was not lined out too.  AVSIM is a site fully related to the aviation world.  As stated in the AVSIM Terms of Service by the late owner, "AVSIM’s goal is to provide an educational and entertainment resource for people with similar interests and a community that is fun to be part of by users from around the world".  Jim Barrett and birdguy explained it well but the description "this forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar" explains it extremely well too.  The lined out information is what was originally in the forum description and used to emphasize the forum is now open to all discussions. I will eventually remove that from the description but wanted to emphasize to some what the policy was before I put in the description, "this forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar".

As you can see in this forum, we also use the Hangar Chat to pin notices to airmen (NOTAM's) regarding scams and other information.

There are, of course, restrictions as the AVSIM Terms of Service prohibits certain discussions on AVSIM that I know are most likely discussed in airport hangars around the world.  Discussions or display of pornographic material, links to pirating websites, violations of EULA's, copyrighted information, religion, politics, solicitation of money, threats and intimidation of AVSIM staff and members of AVSIM, material or language that AVSIM Staff consider to be inflammatory and intended to do no more than elicit controversy and division are just some examples of the restrictions. If the topic belongs in one of our other forums, we will move it.

We will also lock topics our moderating team believes are going "south" or off-topic.  Sometimes those off-topic discussions may be split from a topic and a new topic started instead of locking the original topic.
