Still, it impacts the fps significantly.

Question is - is there a certain view which impacts the least?

Not that I've found.  Everything is at least 10+ FPS loss.

From my conversation with them at Expo as well, essentially they're closing the door on the 717.  They aren't able to reproduce the changing view CTD and after 3 years wanted to have their developers fully move on to other projects.

It's a shame they closed the door on the 717. I would have like to seen them fix the problem.

Talking to TFDI at the FSExpo, other developers use the small window option but it’s done automatically. I was told if you look at the FSLabs or PMDG you will see a small box in the corner of the sim, the one they say to never touch. In order for TFDI to add that feature they would have to recode the whole plane. I guess it makes since. I’m not a developer so maybe someone else can verify this. Been thinking to reinstall it but don’t want to deal with the CTD’s.

Is TFDI really saying that other developers use this technique to prevent CTD's during view changes??  That's not what the small dot is in the PMDG/FSLabs aircraft as it is a light sensor to control ambient panel lighting. It's not a second window running another view....I hope that really isn't the excuse they are using.

It's what I understood but again I'm no developer and unsure if it was embedded or not except it would require a total rebuild of the 717 and others were using a method. But they have moved on so were stuck opening a VC window. If your not having CTD's than no problem. I have been having them since the plane released two separate builds and numerous versions of Windows. I wrote it off my inventory.

Exactly.  It's even labeled light sensor in the panel.cfg.
