GTN 750 on FSX SE (resolved)

Sir, (PXP, President, Reality-XP),

Please see my last entry above wherein I stated to Frank that, "I followed your suggestions and was able to get Reality-XP to reinstall into my FSX-SE. However, it did not solve the problem that I have been dealing with for a month. That is Reality-XP does not show up in any of the FSX-SE default aircraft (the Configuration menu is there, but no GPS panel). I don't know if the reinstalled version is the new version v2.5.11, including a few changes in the 'menu' code, that they said might prove worthy on my system. Nothing has changed."

It was nice that two other customers tried to provide guidance to me, but still nothing has changed.

The "Reinstalled" version in my FSX-SE is version 2.5.8. Why wasn't your new version v2.5.11 installed? How do I get the new version? I still need clear simple guidance with a solution.

Please continue to assist me with this continuing issue.

Thanks,

Richard

Basically it resumes to:

How do I reinstall my software?
http://reality-xp.com/store/faq.html

just that you're using the currently downloadable e-commerce installer from our website, instead of using the one you've already downloaded in the past!

In other words: press the DOWNLOAD button for the product on our website, once downloaded on your hard drive, follow the "how do I reinstall my software" procedure using the just downloaded product from our website.

Sir,

Thank for your new response. I followed your guidance and was able to download your new product version v2.5.11 into my FSX-SE. However, nothing changed. Your product still does not show up in any of the default aircraft.

I also followed your suggestion to review: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/88436-change-permissions-objects-users-groups-windows-10-a.html, which appears to be everything I've done to try to achieve that outcome. At this point, I don't know what else to do.

As I said to Frank and Adrian, I also have X-Plane 11 and I am hesitant to spend more money and time adding Reality-XP to that program, out of concern of related problems.

Regards,

Richard

Can you please just detail what are you doing once you load your simulator?

Here is a process:

  1. Open the Add-on Menu, select Reality XP GTN, Configure Aircraft
  2. Select the first option: "Configure Popup Windows"
  3. Choose 1 window, GTN 750, any size /position you want
  4. Press the 'Review' button
  5. It shows the planned modifications to the panel.cfg file (+green what it adds, -red what it removes)
  6. Press the 'Accept' button
  7. The Aircraft Reloads
  8. The GTN popup window shows up

Sir,

Thanks for your response. Everything you described in your 8 step process is exactly what I have done for over a month in FSX-SE - NO CHANGE. It does not work! I have described to you that in FSX (boxed version) no problems with any aircraft; fully functional.

Now what?

Regards,

Richard

Between these two, the 'menu' code updates the panel.cfg file with the added/removed entries. If this is not working in FSX-SE, and working in FSX Boxed, the ONLY reason is therefore access rights, or something esoteric we have absolutely no idea what it could be on YOUR system.

Really, this specific code handling the panel.cfg modifications is exactly the same whether you run FS9, FSX, FSX-SE, and any other Prepar3D version. At this stage I'm afraid I completely fail to see what is it that makes your computer unhappy with this!?!?!?

Sir,

Thank you for your patience and guidance. I agree. I have no idea what the issue could be. I have learned a lot through this process and have asked a couple of tech friends and they have no more suggestions, either. As I stated, I fly in FSX, FSX-SE and X-Plane 11. I usually fly add-on aircraft but would like to fly the default FSX-SE aircraft occasionally. Given this issue, I can only fly default aircraft in FSX, with your product.

Also, as I stated before, with regard to X-Plane 11, I am hesitant to spend more money and time adding Reality-XP to that program, out of concern of related problems.

Regards,

Richard

One thing you might try with a default aircraft is this:

1) Find the default Baron 58 aircraft folder:

"[...]/steamapps/common/FSX/SimObjects/Airplanes/beech_baron_58"

2) Rename this folder to: "beech_baron_58_original"

3) Make a copy of the renamed folder as a new folder named: "beech_baron_58"

This process should give YOUR user access rights to the copy.

4) Open the RXP Panel Assistant and add 1 popup window like explained above.

Does it work?

Sir,

Congratulations! That worked. However, FSX-SE does not like having two airplane folders with nearly the same names. I get several error messages, but the plane loads and your RXP panel fully loads and operates fine. Am I supposed to have two folders or just one? What do you advise?

Thanks,

Richard

I feel relieved and this confirms the 'User Account Access Rights' were preventing the changes.

As you've copied the entire aircraft folder content, it should be safe to delete the '_original' and only keep the copy.

Sir,

Thank you for staying with me through this challenging process. I don't know if my situation is unique, but I can't imagine that I'm the only one who has had this occur, especially with FSX-SE.

I have one last question, as I stated I also use X-Plane 11. Will your product that I now have work in X-Plane 11?

Thanks,

Richard

Hi Richard,

I can't recall all messages in the forum, still our of my mind I think your situation is quite unique, or other customers just have had experienced similar an issue in the past with their Flight Simulator installation and got it figured over time and never reported in the forum.

I thank YOU for your enduring patience and willingness along the path, and I hope this will assist other customers in the future nonetheless.

As for X-Plane it is entirely different and supposedly easier, because the 'distribution' model is 'embedded'. This means anything related to X-Plane installs into X-Plane subfolders and 'moves' with it when you relocate X-Plane to another hard drive for example. As long as you don't install X-Plane in a default protected Windows folder like "Program Files (x86)" you'll be fine (I don't remember what is the default installation folder for X-Plane if even there is one).

However, X-Plane doesn't have the concept of 'panels' and 'gauges': aircraft, 3D panel, panel and gauges is a monolithic entity. There are 2 sides to the coin then:

1) it is easier for our plugin because there is no panel.cfg file to modify and everything is live with no reload: select a GTN in the RXP plugin menu and you get by default a popup window immediately. With the device enabled, the menu dynamically changes to present additional 'window management' options (hide/show/reset position etc...). Unselect the GTN from the menu and the popup window vanishes.

2) it is harder to configure the GTN in the 3D panel because there is no 3D panel but an aircraft cockpit 3D representation where some textures can be 'drawn' (painted over) by a plugin. This is what is used in X-Plane mostly for EFIS screens. As such, our plugin offers the means to configure (manually only) where-to and how-to render a GTN in the 3D cockpit provided there is room in the 'texture' to draw to.

This sounds complex at first, but if you tour the 'Official Panel Mod' discussion in our X-Plane folder you'll see this only consists in a few entries in the RealityXP.GTN.ini file.

Our X-Plane product have additional settings specific to the simulator (such as the capability to set a GPS to the pilot or copilot side - X-Plane has 2 sets of independent instruments depending on the side!)

Other than this, both our FltSim and XPlane products are designed to offer the same level of user experience, whether the Configuration Panel options, the HIDEF graphics in 32 bits, the higher performances and the responsive interactions.
