Carenado C208 Nav/Gps no longer activating GTN

Featured Replies

Hi Jean Luc. I have observed since the last update, the Nav/GPS switch is no longer working. When using settings\Connect CDI Mode to NAV/GPS it just switches back to NAV and never lets the GTN 650 engage the GPS. If I recall, it worked before 2.5.10. I am using the Panel.cfg available here in the Panel Retro thread for the C208.  On a foot note,I installed the "Other guys" GTN and it is intercepting the command.

Thank you

Hi Adriana,

Have you tried Connect GPS to Autopilot? That setting works for me.

Thanks Bill. ya have tried every combination a avail incuding just Co. GPS to Auto. The nav/gps switch just keeps it on VLOC on the CDI gps. Do you have it isntalled in the C208? The GNS to the same thing.

Yes, the GTN750.

The GNS behaves the same way as the GTN?

Yes Sir. And yes I can make the 750, as a stand alone work because it has its own CDI selector (NAV/GPS)  on the unit where the 650 doesn't. It realize on a panel switch or the cdi selector on the default 430 to switch modes GPS/VLOC.

@Adrian123
Have you tried reinstalling the GTN's from the wrapper to make sure you do have the latest version? Version 2.5.9 didn't work with P3Dv4.4.

Yes. 2.5.10. The odd thing is the F1 GTN's work fine. I have the RXP installed in about 10 or so aircraft and none have a problem activating the CDI...If you have some spare time and could be so kind, could you pop the 650 in yours and see what you get Bill? Should be able to install two windows popup with the 750.

--We are talking the old steam gauge C208HD? I have no problems with the EX G1000 version.

This is odd especially since this code hasn't changed for ages. Are you sure there are no other gauge added, or a module recently added? It is especially curious this happens only on this particular aircraft and no others, well, in fact, this means there is certainly something special with this aircraft configuration otherwise.

The function requires several things:

  • A single GTN, or a Master Device GTN if dual.
  • Connect to HSI
  • Connect CDI Mode to NAV/GPS

If these conditions are met, and the GTN CDI mode differs from the NAV/GPS switch, it just send the FltSim command to 'toggle' the switch (namely: KEY_TOGGLE_GPS_DRIVES_NAV1)

Are you sure you are using a 650, or a 635/625? These last two disable this CDI Mode feature and this should be freely selectable unless there is a bug.

Using the 650 for sure. I don't know Jean Luc. I can put the GTN750 in as a standalone popup and fly all day, works great and that is fine. But the RXP GTN 650 doesn't work at all as it relies on the NAV/GPS panel switch that, BTW it is built into the VC 3D model, cant be removed. I truly believe it's not the RXP gauge but in the Model itself. Like to know of any others who has the 650 working in the C208 HD? ..I hate to compare but the F1 650 works as expected?

Clean install. Used the RXP setup aircraft and installed the 750 and 650 as a two window popup. No VC RXP gauges Open the 750 and 650.  750 setup Panel Inst.: 750 Master device, connect GPS to Autopilot, Connect GPS/HSI, Connect HSI/CRS and Connect CDI Mode to NAV/GPS.

-Switch the panel NAV/GPS sw. from NAV to GPS and it pops right back to NAV. Never changes the CDI on either GTN. Touch the CDI on the GTN 750, the panel NAV/GPS sw goes to GPS and stays and the 750 CDI is in GPS mode. Of course the 650 relies on an external NAV/GPS switch so it never works unless one Unchecks Connect CDI Mode to NAV/GPS in settings and then, the Nav/GPS sw. changes but doesn't activate the CDI on the GTN 750 or 650 and of course, wont follow a GPS route. Bout all got to say about that. 😉

Ok I think I get it now, sorry it wasn't clear to me the first time.

The GTN (and GNS V2) have full authority on the NAV/GPS switch, that is they control the switch. Therefore, the switch doesn't control the GTN or GNS V2 back, like in the real world.

Besides the GTN 650 does have a CDI mode button, in the 'Default Nav' page, to the left of the virtual CDI display.

In order to externally toggle the CDI mode for both the GTN and the GNS V2, there is a 'discrete input' signal available to do so. This usually is a pin connected to a push button on the panel or the yoke in the real world, and it is a simvar you can write to in the simulator world (see User's Manual p13 - "rxp.gps.dscrt_in.cdi_src_1(_2)" )

There is also a keyboard shortcut available for this: "CDI_SOURCE" (manual p12).

Thanks Jean Luc. No apologies needed. I didn't explain it very well. I understand now. That in itself was a huge learning experience, now use FSUIPC button assign to toggle CDI on the 650. 🙂

I can confirm the 650 works normal (follows flight plan) in the 208. No workarounds needed.
