Installed Databases - Error (resolved)

Really, why not just answer these questions? These are quick checks:

Alright, but even before entering a flight plan, when the unit is booting up and shows the actual DB loaded and their expiration dates, what do you see?

In addition, can you please just launch the trainer standalone and see what errors do you get if any?

Besides, it may be unclear but the trainer ships with 4 DB in 2 sets (2x acft + 2x heli). For the aircraft set, there is a Garmin North Am. DB and a Jeppesen International DB. Are you sure you've selected the correct DB?

Not allowing uploads is frustrating for both of us; images are easier then text!

> When booting up: Navigation Database Not found;  Basemap Database Not found; Obstacle Database Not found; SafeTaxi Database Not found; Terrain Database Not found;

Ok this is clear: you have to also download and install the "Database" when installing the trainer.

Please re-run the Garmin trainer installer, then make sure to select Database!

In addition, please make sure NOT TO install as admin (this will break things and is unneeded)

Sorry to report, I'm encountering the same error, both on the trainer & plugin.

Can you confirm you have not installed any Garmin trainer 'as-admin'?

The only reasons the Garmin trainer, standalone or otherwise, wouldn't find the database files, are:

1) The database files are not installed.
When running the trainer, select to install not only the GTN trainer but the Database as well.

2) The trainer installer is run 'as-admin'.
You can search this forum of 'as-admin' or 'as admin' and see why, regardless of RXP, you should never ever install nor run anything 'as-admin' on your computer.

Q: Now, can you confirm you've re-run the Garmin trainer installer and have selected 'Database' in addition to 'GTN' as installation options?

Q: Can you please let me know the content of the following folder on your hard-drive:
"C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Trainers\Databases\fc_tpc\"

When choosing Garmin "Download" on the Garmin Updates & Downloads page (https://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=12373) there was not an option to choose or not choose "as-admin", it simply downloaded & I followed the install prompts

A. I've re-run the Garmin trainer installer & on the Action Plan Page it lists: Trainer Databases, V2.3.0, 4.0 GB, Installed but after powering up the Trainer, the Currently Installed Databases List:  Navigation Database Not found;  Basemap Database Not found; Obstacle Database Not found; SafeTaxi Database Not found; Terrain Database Not found.

A. There is one folder titled CHARTS inside C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Trainers\Databases\fc_tpc\

The installer says they are installed however the trainer can't find them? Well this certainly mean there is something not properly installed.

Please do the following:

  1. Uninstall all the garmin trainer, the DB, etc.. using 'add/remove programs' in Windows.
  2. Manually delete the following folders:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\Trainers\"
    "C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Trainers\"
  3. Reboot the computer
  4. Reinstall the Garmin GTN trainer
  5. Reinstall the Garmin DBs
  6. Launch the trainer standalone and see if this solves the issue.

IMPORTANT: When you download the trainer, don't run it from the internet browser (never do in fact for anything - re: security). Instead, locate where the installer is downloaded then run it manually (i.e. double click) from there.

Thank you, X-Plane 11 & Garmin GTN 650 plugin are working!

I think the OP has the same problem I have.

I just purchased GTN 750 for X-Plane 11. During the installation process it also installs the Garmin Trainer. The trainer runs but none of the databases load.

There doesn't appear to be any way of loading them manually within the trainer software. The databases are on my hard drive; for example there is a folder G:\Garmin\Trainer program data\Databases\fc_tpc\CHARTS on my computer that has 3128 files of what appear to be airport charts.

@apd1004 Hi, I've merged your post to the discussion which was 4 messages below your post with an unequivocal title of "Installed Databases - Error"...

Ok, I think I fixed the problem. Apparently you have to install the trainer and associated files to their default locations or the databases will not load, at least for running the trainer as a stand-alone outside XP11 (see below). I don't like to install anything to my C:\ drive because it is only a 250gb SSD and I use it for boot and Windows only and try to only allow essential operating system files to install there. So, when I initially installed the Garmin Trainer I chose to install it on my G:\ drive. That being said, even though I chose my G:\ drive as the installation folder, Garmin still installed files into two separate locations on my C:\ drive and that is where I think the disconnect between the trainer and the database occurred.

I reinstalled the Garmin Trainer and allowed it to install to the default locations on the C:\ drive and then when I launched the trainer from there the databases were there.

Also I would like to mention that when I used the GTN750 from within XP11 prior to reinstallation (while I still had it running from my G:\ drive), the databases were there and the GTN750 worked fine. It was only when I tried to run the trainer outside of X-Plane that I was having problems with the databases not loading.

So, long story short: when installing the Garmin Trainer, make sure you allow it to install to the default location and do not try to change any of the defaults.

Here's another question.

Is the Garmin Trainer even supposed to be run as a stand-alone program, or is it just for embedding into the RXP GTN plugin for X-Plane?

Yes, it can be run as a stand-alone program. That was its original purpose - to serve as a training and familiarization aid for customers who had purchased an actual GTN for their own aircraft - or who were contemplating doing so.

But, when integrated into a flight sim aircraft that can actually be navigated from point A to B, the unit “comes alive” in a way that it can’t when run as a static desktop app. That is probably why Garmin was quite willing to allow vendors like RXP to use the trainer as the core of their FS GTN programs. From a marketing standpoint, it is a “win-win” for all involved.

Good afternoon. I asked for a refund and received it because of the past problem, and today I decided to buy it again. I bought the GTN 650 and GTN 750 to see if the problem would be solved. When I try to install, I get this:

The installer has insufficient privileges to access this directory: C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Trainers\Launcher\Manuals.  The installation cannot continue.  Log on as administrator or contact your system administrator. Fatal error during installation. Error Code: 0x80070643

I am already logged in as admin. I did not run the program as-admin.

I have some questions:

1. Does it only work if I install the trainer?

2. do both of those (GTN 750 & GTN 650) substitute the default 430 and 530 from X-Plane 11?

Please help me install so I don't have to ask for another refund.

Thank you.

Hi,

Can you further explain what you mean with 'it does not load the database' ? Is this a message showing up? Do you think it doesn't because it doesn't display something you're expecting? Other?

I open XPlane, open my aircraft, I see the GTN750 and everyone I bought, but the screen is dark, nothing appears.

For this reason ask for the refund. But not convinced that I lost the opportunity to use GTN. I bought yesterday again and I come here to try to solve this problem.
