Another CPU upgrade question

Featured Replies

Currently using a 7740X on a x299 gaming 9 board, looking for an upgrade. Thinking about a 9900X, is that a good choice? what would you guys get?

I just rebuilt my sim rig on a Z390 motherboard with a 6-core i7-8086K (the 8086K is a top-binned 8700K).  Very happy with it--it easily overclocked to 5.3Ghz with a custom water loop and without need to delid the CPU to keep temps below 80 deg C even on a stress test.  The i9-9900X looks to be a solid performer--but you will need a very high-end cooling system and a motherboard with stout voltage regulation to pull off a 5GHz+ overclock on the 9900K.

Cool, Im not looking to overclock, my 7740x is doing good with a D15 cooler. I was looking at the 9900X or the 9920X but not sure which would be best for my needs. I fly P3Dv4.4, DCS and play around with Arma3, so I'm looking for the best of the best for my needs but really not sure which way to go and I really don't want to change my motherboard which has a 2066 socket.

I would wait for Sunny Cove in 2019.  The products on the market today offer good performance, but Sunny Cove stands to offer significantly more (for the same price).

There's an interesting throw-away line at the end of that article:

"So where does this leave us in terms of Sunny Cove predicted performance compared to Skylake at a clock for clock level? Unfortunately we don’t have enough information."

Where did you get your information about pricing?
