Cloud Shadows??

Featured Replies

What I am about to say is so important, in my opinion, that I have to first state this: I have been for years on Avsim, using Flight Simulator since 1986 (when I was 10). This is only the second time I am posting a comment...so here it goes:Based on the pictures and video so far available, cloud shadows are nowhere to be seen (or read). There has only been one picture from E3 showing a checkbox in the options menu. As cloud shadows add significantly to the volumetric effect, they are considered an important feature. Are they going to be included in the final version of FSX or has Aces Studios silently dropped the ball?Elias

I seem to remember reading that, whilst cloud shadows weren't in, (when I read the comment) the FS team were attempting to include them. Not sure if they were able to or not though.

Searching Memory banks.....If I'm remembering this correctly, there is at least 1 video if not 2 where its mentioned that Cloud Shadows would be a DX10 feature.

Hi all,There is a good chance that cloud visuals and other atmospheric and lighting effects are redone completely with the new DX10 capabilities when DX10 is out. It's just pure speculation but I think that's the reason why cloud visuals seem to be almost unchanged so far because it would be redundant work for now. I expect an overhaul of cloud visuals including the cloud shadows with the DX10 update, but not with the initial DX9 release.I really look forward to FSX concerning weather effects. We already heard about improved turbulence, about thermals, about having different visibility layers. All of this together with a possible overhaul of the sky visuals could be really exciting!Jan
