P3dv4.5 will not load

Featured Replies

Greetings all!

Just wondering if anyone has some advice.

Yesterday I finally took the plunge and was going to move from v4.4 to v4.5. I downloaded the zip file from LM, extracted the files within and then started following the install protocol as per the guide by Poppet (I had gone through this process when upgrading from v4.3 to v4.4, so was not totally unfamiliar with it).

After the v4.5 client had been installed, it would launch, or I should say, would not launch completely. The opening screen came up, Ultimate Traffic Live started to load, and then after some time the screen just disappeared from the desktop. No P3D icon on the taskbar, either. No error message. When I did click on the launch shortcut again I did get a message about an SODE still running that had to be closed via Task Manager. Located that, closed it, but that did not make any difference. I then uninstalled the new client and reinstalled it again - same results.

Sooo, I still had the v4.4 files from that installation saved in a folder on my gaming computer. I installed that client (v4.4) and the sim launched normally. Flew a PMDG 737 for a couple hours last night without any problems. Also used Rex EF for the first time and was fairly impressed with it.

Anyone have any ideas of how I can get v4.5 up and running?

Regards,

Scott

Do you have WX Advantage Radar installed? If so go to XX:\P3DV4\Modules and delete MV_WXM.dll.

Wait for an update for v4.5 hot fix before you reinstall.

Ah, now I remember seeing something about that....had forgotten about it.

I did install an update for the Rex Wx Advantage Radar this morning before work.

I'll check when I get home.

Thanks!

One hint I found was to use ALT+TAB and see if there are any grey bars appearing as part of the desktop screen.

These are usually caused by addons not yet compatibile with the version of prepar3d you have installed. It's a fragile beast since 4.0 moved further and further away from the FSX it was sired from.

I had the same problem. A fresh upgrade from 4.4 to 4.5 would display the splash screen for about 30 seconds, which would then disappear without ever getting to the scenario loading menu. Checking the event viewer showed P3d.exe had crashed with an ntdll error. This happened on every load attempt.

I removed various add-ons one at a time. When I set the WXAdvantage “active” entry to “false” in dll.xml, the sim loaded fully with no errors, so I’m pretty sure that was the culprit.

I just checked the Rex forums and note that they have released an updated version of WXAdvantage with P3D 4.51 compatibility within the last day or so. I’ll give that a try later today.

Well, I got P3Dv4.5 to load...kind of...

I deactivated the MilViz radar file as was suggested. The sim will now load and I can make changes in settings, select an aircraft, etc....

However, after having done that the sim will not progress beyond a black screen. See below for a screenshot of it. The only way I can get P3D to close is via Task Manager. I thought it might be due to the Shaders having to be rebuilt, but even after 5 minutes nothing happens.

If anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear them!

Got it sorted - working now 🙂

A re-boot of the computer can do wonders 😋
