how to update the database to the most current?

Featured Replies

After purchasing the GTN750 (and GTN650), I found that during the installation it gives you a 404 error for the trainer.  So you have to cancel the installation, click each and every link below (provided by RXP) and save them all to the same folder of your choice, then install each one, one at a time.  After installing all of them, you then run the RealityXP installer again and it installs without errors.  For me, I then launched XPlane and my aircraft, went for a test flight, briefly checked on functionality and all seemed functional.  Hopefully I did not miss something?

One thing though that I have not been able to decipher from the forums as of yet is how to update the database to the most current.  Following the procedure I described above, it seems to have installed expired databases (Screenshot: GTN 750 Expired Databases).  Can I update all the expired databases to the latest without messing up the working installation and precisely what are the steps to do that? (as descriptive as possible for each database the non computer savvy person please).

You have the latest (1809) GTN databases.. they came with the recently released Garmin GTN Trainer, and are the newest that Garmin has provided (for free).

Thanks for the reply Bert!  I did not realize that the latest (1809) was the latest we could get for free. Coming from the Navigraph world knowing the latest was 1907 and I saw the display on the GTN showed expired I thought I could update the databases.  I'm guessing to get the actual latest database you have to have a Garmin subscription?  Or this is it, we get what the trainer gives us?

If you know a real world aircraft owner who has a Garmin subscription, you may be able to get a recently expired navdata set... just like expired paper charts in the old world..

Hi,

please see the recommended posts in the dedicated discussion:

Does anyone know if Garmin will provide you the most up to date database if you pay them? I know it's expensive. I think I read you have to own an actual unit? I was thinking about calling them, but I'm not in the mood to get laughed at by Garmin. 😉

You would have to buy the data every month, per subscription, if you want to stay up to date. Are you sure you want to spend that kind of money?

Bert

Yikes! Every month?! I assumed the price was for the year.

I'm contemplating on buying the real sim gear GTN 750. The expired database in the trainer is making me think twice and the possibility of Garmin freezing the use of the trainer on the Reality XP 750. All in my head I know but a risk to factor into the price.
