I became buddies with the Jet Blue trainees back in '99, while they were at JFK staying with my client in their hotel, the airline was getting ready to launch.  I was asked to work an extra week and a half for my client after my two colleagues had to go on to another project, and my client wanted me to continue teaching them new accounting practices since I was a former Controller and their Controller wanted my help to reorganize their books.  After I quit my teaching, I would go to the JFK Hilton's lounger (it was converting to a Best Western at the time) to mingle with the Jet Blue pilots, gate agents and flight attendants. 

They were so kind to me, they'd buy me a beer, I would share with them my travel stories and what to expect from business customers in the sky, since some of the flight attendants had never worked in an airline before.  My advice to them was to stand tall, and be firm with heavy drinkers not to serve them more alcohol on a flight, not to be jerks but to protect those drinkers from hurting themselves from dehydration, since alcohol as we well know can affect our judgement and personal safety boundaries.  I worked guest service and in the process of managing my first hotel, also supervised our wine bar. 

My brother, a bartender, taught me how to defuse heavy drinker's habits while keeping their self esteem up, my brother could prohibit a heavy drinker from drinking without the drinker getting angry--first, one did not mess with him, and second, he did not mess with the drinker's state of mind.  One of his regular customers can be seen as an extra in the movie "Sister Act", parts of which were filmed at my brother's stage bar at Fitzgerald's Reno, which was portrayed as the "Moonlight Lounge" in the across the street Nevada club--you know how Hollywood mixes and matches locations, lol.  I often sat next to that customer, who would just play the poker machines.  My brother, always observant, noticed his machine had not paid off in a long while, so he invested $100, a rare gambler as we casino workers are/were (in my case), and he won over $10,000. 

All my experience with my brother, who sadly left me for greater duties "up there somewhere" from a undiagnosed brain blood vessel blockage at his early age of 33 in '92, helped me in my customer service roles and teaching hotel, retail and airline staff how to deal with the worst of customer service challenges.  I was glad I was there to give free advice to the Jet Blue crews at JFK way back in '99, their immediate success humbled me back then.
