July 18, 20196 yr Hey guys, Apologies if this has been posted here before (which I know it has - the threads are quite old, however, as they aren't in the context of v4). I currently run FSX: SE and have been for quite a long time. As FSX now is quite an old piece of software that many devs are choosing to drop, I'm deciding to finally make the move to P3D v4. However I have quite a few addons that I'm not willing to repurchase that run well enough on FSX (All PMDG products, for example). However, for new releases and products such as the FSLabs A320/319 (for which the 319 expansion isn't even available for FSX), I'm sure P3D is a better optimized sim. In addition to these, I have environment/scenery addons that are licensed for both FSX/P3D (Orbx global, most addon airports, REX SF3D, AS16). Would it be possible to install P3D on the same machine (and same disk) as FSX and reinstall all the addons common to FSX and P3D into the new P3D install? Would I run into problems here? If anyone successfully runs P3D and FSX side by side, please do let me know how you set it up. Thanks! Edited July 18, 20196 yr by themasterWookie Chirag Abichandani
July 18, 20196 yr Hi Chirag.... I have three sims on one partition - and run all three without any problems. They access two scenery folders - one for 32-bit sims (FSX & P3d v3.4) and the other for 64-bit P3d 4.5. OK, the scenery folders are quite large - about 76 GB each, but are accessible via 'Addon' XML files. All three each have their own startup icon, and start with their own startup flights. Updating P3d doesn't affect the other two at all. I always perform a full installation every time - without many of the problems that are evident in these forums. The only problem I have is editing my batch files when writing scenery - my memory is fading a little....that does get quite complcated. I've been 'flying sims since 1986. I used to, and the two worked just fine side by side on my machine. I ended up dropping FSX only because P3D is so much better in the "doesn't crash due to memory limitations" department that I decided it was worth it to re-buy the QOTSII so I could actually complete international flights without a sim crash, usually on final. FSX is still installed on my machine, but I haven't opened it in months. Ryzen 7 7800X3D/B650 X AX | 5090 | 32gig | Win10 | Pimax Crystal Light
