Camera's and replay

Featured Replies

Something that is often greatly overlooked in flight simulators is the camera options. The availability of some really good camera options and control at launch can make a day and night difference on how the game will be perceived by people watching YouTube movies, live streams and screenshots made within the game. It will also help attract people to the game who are more into the creative options that such a game will present. Pretty pictures help a lot to attract people. So what camera modes will be important? I've listed some that I think will be the most important:

Creative free camera
Is not attached to the plane and can be moved anywhere in the world. Has 6 degrees of freedom, so can also be rolled. Has a lot of manual control options like DOF, exposure, zoom, FOV and several filters.

Creative follow camera
The same as the creative free camera, except this one moves with the plane. You can move the camera freely to positions relative to the plane and rotate the camera around its own axis.

Creative orbit camera
Like the creative follow camera, but this time the camera is oriented to the center of the plane although the center can be shifted. The camera rotates around this center.

Creative interior camera
Like the creative free camera, but this one is used to freely move around the interior of the plane.

I think it is equally important to be able to set several presets per camera type and plane and to be able to quickly access them. This allows video makers to quickly change from the wing view to a closeup of the retracting landing gear. But it will also allow them to quickly change from there to the tower view and to a camera that was setup at the end of the runway. Think of the great video's people will be able to make with all the details available in the scenery and aircraft. Maybe users should be able to store the presets to the plane as well as to a seperate file.

For all outside cameras several effects should be a toggle like weather effects (turbulence, raindrops on lens) and bobbing effects. For all inside cameras several effects should also be a toggle like movement effects (turbulence, shocks in the airframe, realistich neck model for both rotation and movement latency).

Another thing that will be important is to be able to fluently move and pan those camera's, not only by using a mouse, but also by using a joystick. You don't want to see jerky camera panning because of the use of keyboard or mouse. Maybe the camera's can get an adjustable momentum or something.

You should not only be able to watch your own aircraft using these camera's but also be able to switch to other nearby aircraft.

Last but not least, to be able to get the perfect shots a really good replay option will be mandatory. It will need to be able to record and replay everything, from control surfaces to rotation speed of the wheels, cockpit lighting settings and lever and switch positions. But don't forget about the time of day, the weather and even cloud positions if possible.

So what do you think will be important regarding camera options and replay?

I'd love to have a fully featured built in camera and video tool with FS2020.  Euro & American Truck Simulators do this well and it is very handy indeed.  Plus it allows players to easily share media which provides tons of free marketing too.

Definitely a +1 for a good replay system. When I plant it, I want to watch myself plant it. Again. And again. And again...

MFS

Yup, very sought after feature.  Something along the lines of FSRecorder would be great.  But designed in such a way to make complex aircraft animation replays possible.
