Bird Strikes

Featured Replies

With birds flying around in FSX, I'm guessing birdstrikes are going to be possible. Anyone know if there could be any effects relating to birdstrikes?

Maybe...I could imagine a red message on green background on top of the screen that reads CRASH.

Effects like the cockpit covered with blood, parts from birds and who knows what else, hmm i doubt it.

I'm including bird strikes in my upcoming 767 version of FS2Crew.Simulating a broken windshield (that really looks like a smashed windshield) is tough, though. Adding blood stains that really look like blood stains is even tougher due the graphic limitations of FS.Still, it's a neat effect, even though the smashed windshield currently looks like a spider web.Bryan

I mean, if I were to crash in a real airplane, the first thing I'd see (assuming I survived) would be the wreckage... and oh yeah, bodies. Can't forget the charred remains of your virtual passengers in full DX10 shader glory with all the particle effects such a visual would require. I also think that the sim should require you to assume the role of a TSA or FAA agent searching for the cockpit voice recorder, and then have to notify the families of your 200-odd passengers that their loved ones won't be coming home for the holidays. There's only so much you can simulate before it gets ridiculous. Bird strikes don't always end in crashes, and would serve as a good test of pilotage to safely get the plane down. That would be a cool feature if included.Crashes, however, are done quite adequately in my opinion. I'm not sure what the consensus is, but when I crash in FS, I usually utter an expletive and reset the flight, rather than sit there and be amazed at how realistically the crash scene was rendered.

Keep in mind that bird strikes can vary in the level of damage to an aircraft. From no damage at all to a dent or even structural penetration. For those that do cause severe damage, it would be nice if they modeled system failures such as a hydraulic failure, fuel leak, engine failure, pressurization loss, etc.

Seriously,I would be more than happy if they would be able to implement partial damage into the FS flight model in the future releases, like a bird strike onto one of the engines, (no visual effects... Please) with a failure of that engine... Engine fires and the like...for the upcoming version a "CRASH" label on the screen would be fine...Although...It would be nice, no effect at all and being able to see the birds going through the plane from inside the cabin with active camera...or we could play "Capture-the-bird-inside-the-cockpit" LOL (joking again)

I could pass on crash effects but it would be interesting if a bird strike could cause an engine failure etc. I wouldn't put much priority on it though.

If MS doesn't include it I'm sure a 3rd party developer can figure out how to make it work. http://www.dreamfleet2000.com/gfx/images/F...s/Mullins01.jpg"A straight line may be the shortest distance between two points, but it is by no means the most interesting."Don MullinsNiceville, FL.
