CTD after updating to V4.5

Featured Replies

Haven't flown in a while and decided to update from 4.4. After installing all the updates and starting it up, I get the ntdll.dll crash upon start up. Doesn't even get to the main menu. Just closes after a minute or two of loading. I tried the fixes from the CTD guide for ntdll.dll and still nothing. Before, I had a blue screen while updating my Nvidia drivers and Geforce Experience wouldn't open (completely different from P3D). I manually updated the drivers and that fixed that issue but did not solve my P3D crashing issue.

I tried reinstalling Active Sky, searched for updates to REX Sky Force, and uninstalled the VRS Superbug after I had issues in the past and still nothing. Can't really think of anything else that would be faulting but I do have a lot of add ons installed.

Heres the log in the Event Viewer:

Thanks for the help

Cleared the shaders?

In v4.5 it is possible to assign a key or button to force a shader clearing.

For trouble shooting I typically start by renaming the main config folders, that way new clean folders of files are auto generated on next P3D start and it's a quick way to see if the prob goes away.

If all is good at that point it then becomes a process of elimination.

i.e. swapping back to your orig config folders and clearing shaders and scenery indexes, then renaming the main config files one by one so that a fresh file is generated for testing with till the prob is narrowed down.

You could also do a chkdsk and other windows related test/repair options incase it is a Windows structural issue.

If all fails then rename the main P3D folder and config folders (keep as a reference till resolved) and start installing from the begining.

Hope the above helps.

Cheers

I moved my shaders folder, P3D.cfg, and a few other config folders to my desktop to let them regenerate from scratch and still nothing.

Tried deleting the scenery indexes as well?

You'll need to be more specifc as to what you've tried as "a few other config folders" doesn't really say much at all specifically.

There were some issues with various addon for version 4.5 (as there tends to be for most updates).

There were addin updates of course resolving issues as they came up, but you'll have to go searching for what they are in relation to what addons you've got installed.

Not so much scenery issues, more things like certain aircraft, weather programs, weather radars, GPS, etc.

Try searching the P3D forum for "4.5" and "update" and see what you get back.

Otherwise a process of elimination...

Generally when I update I expect a number of items will need to be updated to suit the new version.

And I install just the client first to see how it goes and what works/what doesn't, then update accordingly.

I also rolled back to 4.4 at the time while waiting for various addon compatability updates, using just the client installer makes it easy to do.

Cheers

See the AVSIM CTD Guide and some suggestions for fixing this error.  If you system is overclocked, this is usually the issue and you need to roll it back to the Optimal Defaults.  Incompatible scenery will cause this crash too.

This indicates a heap corruption which could be caused by a whole lot of things including what I mentioned above.  Since no installation of add-ons is not the same for everyone, you will have to investigate.  Try some of the suggestions on Page 9/10, CTD Guide on How to Fix Almost every Crash/Freeze using P3DV4.  The most common cause is a module in your dll.xml or a bad P3D.cfg.  Link to the guide is in my signature.

My system is currently not overclocked in any way. I may be running XMP mode for RAM but not 100% sure on that. The only new scenery I have installed since the issue is the new LatinVFR New Orleans and never really tested to see if it worked in 4.4 before updating. There might be some updates that I didn't receive for it so I will check that.

I resolved my BSOD but I guess there could still be some corrupted files from it. I did run the system file checker like the guide said and it did replace some files. Still wouldn't load after that. I will try some other potential fixes listed and report back if it either works or does not.

Thanks for the reply both of you! 😄

Found the fault. In the dll.xml, an entry for the REX WX advantage radar was causing issues. Uninstalled it and reset the file and it fixed it.

Thanks again for the help!

Remember that PSD v4 has two  dll.xml's,  one in same folder as psd.cfg (old default) and one in same folder as the scenery.cfg (new default). When you update there is usually an update to the fsuipc and ASP4.  In addition there's a module from Carenado that loads the cmeteo.dll. This is associated with the weather radar. Once. I got the ntdll crash whenever there was bad weather.  Disabled the module and crashes stopped.  Carenado aircraft are installed as defaults in P3D. Another long shot but thought I would mention.  When you rename the dll.xml in the same folder as the scenery.cfg it will be rebuilt but not the other one which loads the fsuipc.
