Magically better FPS!

Magically better FPS! The strangest thing, since downloading the beta file I was utterly frustrated at the frame rates; my specs are:Pentium 4 Extreme 3.2 GHz, 2 GB Ram, Nvidia 7800 GTX with 256 of ramAfter days of messing around with the sliders, I was at the brink of deleting it and waiting for the final release in stores. No matter what I did I could not get more than 6 or 10 fps!! Of course I could get 60 or more fps if I pulled every slider to the extreme left.I thought I had found the fps eater with the auto generator and the traffic, but after two days of total frustration it just got better! No reason what so ever. I am now able to pull all sliders to the extreme right except for the water effects, but traffic, weather, land and everything else to the extreme right and I am getting over 25 fps at the busiest airports/cities :)I do not understand, even the famous blurries were greatly reduced. I don

>>What are your computer specifications? Did these changes occur>after you installed new drivers or changed something in the>FSX cfg file?Pentium 4 2.3 GHz, 2 gigs of DDR2 ram, Nvidia 7800 GTX with 256 MB of ram.Yesterday I downloaded the latest drivers for my Nvidia Video card and restarted my computer. But after that there was not change in FPS. It was not until today that things just clicked!Maby the New Nvidia drivers did not kick in until today?I did not touch the fsx.cfg I do not know where it is even :(

Hmm I have a similar system and the same video card. I will try the new video drivers but I doubt it will improve things much....

Put all sliders to the highest settings, then start up at EGLL, i promise you that 25 FPS is NOT possible no matter what drivers you have installed. And make sure textures is set at 1 meter.

And make sure textures is set at 1>meter.At 1280 X 1024 with Anisotropic filtering and Antialiasing checked, weather at highest level, traffic ultra high, all sliders in scenery to the right except for water effects as stated earlier to high 1x, dynamic scenery max, I am getting 14 fps lowest and 23.2 highest at Heathrow Airport. The 23.2 FPS comes from looking everywhere except directly at the airport. Between 14 and 18 FPS looking directly at Airport with trucks, planes etc. moving around. If u have my PC config, or simular, how many FPS are u getting?

> What type of FPS are u getting now?Not much difference. My sliders are approx 75% except for light bloom, AI, clouds etc. I simply can get anything more than about 10 FPS over cities. Its also disapointing that the scenery down under is not a whole lot different to fs9. Koorby has got alot of work to do.

Within the last two weeks I had a similar experience and posted my astonishment on this forum. With no changes in my sliders, but after installing the newest drivers for my ATI X1600 (not really the best card) suddenly my fps for both FSX and FS9 stayed pretty much glued to 24. (My setting is locked at 25.) Any dips below 24 are momentary and not nearly as severe as previously. I cannot satisfactorily explain the change but accept it gladly.

Same here with the FSX Beta!I downloaded and installed the newest drivers + defragmentation of both the h/d where I have Win XP and the h/d for different programs!I noticed some increase of the fps with the drivers and a even more after the defrag!Haraldh F.

Guys theres no magic. Its your imagination running away with you again ;)

I'm getting up there, true, and sometimes my mind plays games with me. However, I know I am not imagining a 6 fps improvement with the same plane over the same scenery and no change in my settings. As I stated before, I can't explain it, but I can measure it.

Gents,For those with the 'magic' improvements:Are you all using ATi cards? It seems like you are, which would make sense as the latest Ati driver has seen major performance improvements in both DX9 and OpenGL apps, most noticably with 256mb cards as the way textures are handled has been changed.Maybe this is the 'magic' you are seeing?EDIT: Ooops, guess not - 1st poster is using Nvidia......Glenn

Yes, I am using Nvidia too!My PC is 1.5 years old:HP Pavilion d1160P4 3.4 GHzCache mem: 1024 kBInt. mem : 1024 MB DDR2 SDRAM (533 MHz)Graphics c: GF 6800 (256 MB)Sound: SB Audigy 2 ZSH/d: 2 x 160 GB SATA + 1 extra 160 GB UATA+ Win XP!P.S. And I can clearly read the fps figures in the top left corner! Even if I am 63! D.S.Haraldh F.
