Hi I just joined, I didnt know there was a forum for MS Flight sim X so real happy to have found one!!!

We just bought our daughter her first flight sim package as she wants to be a pilot a great profession and even more so that she is only 10!

She loves flying the cessna on FSX and that led us to get her the logitech/saitek yoke, throttle quadrant, switch gear and also a set of thrustmaster pedals.

I have managed to set up the yoke and the throttle on the quadrant but I am unable to set up the switch gear or the pedals.

I am a little lost here and my daughter is getting frustrated not being able to fully use her new controllers.

There deosnt seem to be any definiative help on the manufacturers websites.

I will have a search of the forum and see what info i can gather in the meantime and try and finish setting things up.

thanks

Your computer system should automatically recognize the hardware once plugged in but some things need the drivers to be installed first so it can recognize the hardware.  It is nice your 10 year old is interested in flight simulation but think it will be difficult for her to stay focused.  My grandson and granddaughter tried out my simulators several times but mostly enjoyed flying into the ocean or a mountain.  They flew the F18 as it was fast.  To go through the procedures of setting up the aircraft, starting the aircraft, and then taking off was impossible no matter how much I tried to teach them. A frustrating experience as I thought all kids would love to learn to fly!  I think Millennial's have an issue with someone telling them what to do. They want to be in the air NOW! I'm sure you will make a good teacher though as she watches you go through the procedures to get up and flying.  I became a flight simmer solely to learn some of the procedures required for a pilot to fly.  Learning about SIDS/STARS, VOR'S, ILS's, ATC, how to program the flight management computers on board the heavies, runway/taxiway signs, and how to start up a 737 or 777 have kept me interested.  I have tried to learn how to properly set up the G1000 gauge on General Aviation but it is difficult as developer's have a difficult time with the spots to change frequencies, etc.  I can usually get it finally programmed but maybe an hour or two later and that's too much time to spend on just one thing.  I'm hoping the new Microsoft Flight Simulator will fix some of these bugs.  There is a lot of material to study and learn no matter your level of expertise.

Perhaps the following link will help setting up the pedals - https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/91AAb1U7ZTL.pdf

Welcome to AVSIM - Simmer's Premier Resource!  Enjoy!  Please check out the AVSIM FSX Configuration Guide and, if you have a computer crash while flying, AVSIM's CTD Guide for guidance to resolve your frustrating experiences.

thanks for the reply Jim.

My daughter is in an advanced learning program in school, she is being taught at a 16 year old level and is very focused on what she does.

She already taxies, takes off , circles and lands, she taught herself to do that. She is currently learning short airport hops and navigation. Completely blows my mind what she does.

She is learing the ins and outs of the cessna before she tries anything else, she also has flight gear and goes through all the check lists on that before she flies.

My son was the same he is heavily into music and electronics, I am an engineer by trade in audio electronics and music production. So i actively encourage them both.

Thank you for getting back to me, i will continue to try and get everything set up for her today.

Great news regarding your daughter being gifted.  I hope she learns a lot through flight simulation and DOES become a pilot one day.  I was just using my knowledge of 10 year olds as an example. I know some colleges are using Prepar3D for interested students and, of course, the Defense Department too.  There is a lot of realism and eye-candy from many talented developers.

Best regards,

Jim

For the switches you will need a copy of SPAD and the unregistered version of FSUIPC. Both are free and come with installers.

You don't have to do anything special, SPAD will link to the Switch panel and uses FSUIPC to talk to FSX.

FSX will find the pedals if your computer does.  Try typing "USB game controllers" in the search box to verify your system found them.

I have a set of these myself.

You'll find the drivers for the Thrustmaster pedals here, together with a manual.

It'll also install the TARGET program which covers all Thrustmaster products (Hint: a set of 2 x MFDs is cheap and really useful).

ah yes many thanks, we have a couple of the MFD units on order , she wants the instrument shroud and the rest of the controls so we are grabbing those for her birthday.

We are also going to get her the new ms flight sim when it comes out.

She will be joining our local Air Cadets as soon as she is old enough, she will get to learn to fly gliders and visit RAF squadrons and also get more info and experience.

I really appreciate all of your help, i will try and grab some video of her flying and pop a link on

Adding to my reply I seem to keep forgetting that Logitech has drivers available also, which you could use instead of the SPAD/FSUIPC combo.

I'm just so familiar with the combo that I sometimes have a hard time seeing beyond it
