September 15, 200619 yr Hi mate,Try these for easy and economical worldwide coverage that is a VAST improvement over the default:Terrain Mesh: http://www.fsglobal.com/ (A medium resolution mesh, 100 times better than defalt!)Landclass: http://www.myworld2004.com/Textures: http://www.flight1.com/products.asp?search...d%20EnvironmentAdd Ultimate Terrain to taste. Serve defragged :)
September 15, 200619 yr Commercial Member Hi Webmaximus,(1) while the higher-resolution terrain mesh improves the terrain immediately surrounding your aircraft, the "Buffer mesh" improves the more distant terrain and helps with the "blue slivers" sometimes seen in the distance when you have higher-resolution terrain installed (caused by the boundary between very high-resoution terrain and very low-resolution terrain.) The higher the terrain resolution, the smaller its display radius; conversely, the lower the terrain resolution, the larger its display radius. So "buffer mesh" gives a more gradual transition out to the horizon and improves the display of the more distant terrain.(2) Yes, $48.34 to be exact, postage paid.(3) Yes, and you get the DVDs for archival purposes. Downloading is an option. But 20-some Gb is a lot of downloading! :-) I ship everything within 24 hours M-Sa, often same day order arrives. Probably about 4-5 working days to Sweden has been the norm....And no, Galaxy memberships are merely an option for further future value. And all new Galaxy-class members receive the whole DVD collection on request.Hope this helps . . .-------Justinhttp://www.fsgenesis.netHigh Quality Scenery for FS200x ________________ Justin - Toposim http://www.toposim.net
September 15, 200619 yr Author Hi Justin and thanks for your prompt reply to my question!Yep... :-) ...downloading this huge amount of data will of course take a while but anyway it will be faster than waiting for it on the regular mail and I'm just a little bit eager to get my FS9 up and running with all this eye-candy ;-)Could you please tell me the steps for placing the order and then go for the download option. I've already put the packages in the shopping cart at your site and got to the point where I'm asked to enter my credit card info but when and where will I be presented by the option to download the packages rather than having them sent to me?And maybe I should ask...I hope you have a good and stable internet connection ;-) I have a 10 Mbit connection here...
September 15, 200619 yr Commercial Member HI Web,After your purchase, log back into the FSG store and click Product Downloads. Or, if getting a Galaxy-class membership, click GalaxyXpress.Thanks-------Justinhttp://www.fsgenesis.netHigh Quality Scenery for FS200x ________________ Justin - Toposim http://www.toposim.net
September 15, 200619 yr Author Serve defragged...that was a good one and I'll keep that in mind :-)Yep...checked out the FS Global but haven't been able to find out if it's possible to download it or if you have to order it? And...right now I think the FSGenesis will be the path of my choice since it has been recommended by a couple of people and also comes at a reduced price if bying all the packages.About MyWorld2004, how does that compare to Ultimate Terrain? It has a world-wide coverage and is much cheaper than getting world-wide coverage using Ultimate Terrain so I wonder what and how big the difference is since I understood they are both landclass add-on's?
September 15, 200619 yr Author OK, I'll give it a try and please don't take your servers down during the weekend...;-)
September 15, 200619 yr Commercial Member They've been up continually for nearly six months, so don't anticipate any downtime this weekend.:-)-------Justinhttp://www.fsgenesis.netHigh Quality Scenery for FS200x ________________ Justin - Toposim http://www.toposim.net
September 15, 200619 yr Commercial Member MyWorld, AFAIK, is only landclass. UT is shorelines, coastlines, rivers, lakes, railroads, highways, roads, golf courses, and urban landclass (optionally). So the two products really aren't the same thing at all.-------Justinhttp://www.fsgenesis.netHigh Quality Scenery for FS200x ________________ Justin - Toposim http://www.toposim.net
September 15, 200619 yr Hi,Yes Justin is correct,These 2 products aren't the same thing. Ultimate terrain does include a landclass, but its real value lies in the accurate roads, rails and coastlines.... every road within the covered areas.... plus those special street lights that really add to the visuals at dusk, night and dawn. Combine this with Justin's mesh, GEpro2 ( with great night textures )and ASv6 and your fs9 will look stunning.Paul
September 15, 200619 yr Author That's just what I wanted to hear...will start the HUGE download now any minute :-)
September 15, 200619 yr Author OK, thanks guys for your comments on MyWorld but what exactly is included with it? From your answers there are obviously no roads, rails, coastlines etc etc...Guess I'll go for the combination of FSG, GEPro and UT then...just thought I could save a few $ by going for MyWorld instead of UT since I thought to myself that the two programs of these three that will give you the most visual pleasure would be the mesh and the textures but maybe the landclass info is equal as important to give you the "real" look then...?Anyway I should be starting download all FSG mesh now, have a couple of GB mesh ahead of me ;-)
September 16, 200619 yr Hi again,FS Global is boxed only as far as I know. You can get it from www.justflight.com too.MyWorld does include primary roads, rivers, railways, towns, lakes, forest, etc, etc. It is just landclass and landclass defines all these things. Landclass even defines motorway/interstate roads from other single lane roads in basic way that you can see the central reservation between the two sides (shown on VFR charts too). In addition, Landclass can define lakes with an recognisable shape and rivers. The roads, railwaylines and rivers all snake roughly the way and are possitioned accurately enough to be recognizable, but don't expect it to be perfect.Landclass does this in an approximate, but still accurate within a 1km I believe as each landclass cell is 1km (somebody correct me if I'm wrong, maybe 2km or something). I can tell you, that using a normal VFR chart, I can navigate using just MyWorld landclass by comparing the position of roads, rivers, railways, towns and hills (with FS Global). This is partly because I know the UK from the air very well in RL terms so I know what to look for. But none the less it is good enough.Ultimate Terrain specifically adds additional features such as accurate golf courses, shorelines, industrial zones. In addition, UT provides urban landclass that makes the posistioning, size and shape of the towns more accurate because it manually adjusted where required (MyWorld is generated from data using algorithms only...I think). In addition, UT provides vector (as opposed to landclass) roads, rivers, lakes and railways, making these follow a very accurate route and good accurate sizing and shape. The rivers and lakes are as they really look, not just a landclass blue line or approximate shape, but the actual width and shape. The roads stand out more and you have the option of all roads, even dirt tracks, not just primary roads. You can even see the structure of intersections! Basically UT overlays the detail already provided by MyWorld (or other general landclass) so MyWorld stuff like the type of vegitation, etc are not affected by UT. MyWorld will give worldwide coverage that is recognisable when compared to charts, just not precise and may miss occasional roads, rivers and small towns, etc. But is 90% right. UT is an optional region specific extra for that extra detail (it is worth it!).
September 16, 200619 yr No,Ultimate Terrain has some landclass in it, but its real purpose, at least for me, is the 1000x more accurate water and road systems it has. In fact, I find myself going elsewhere for landclass as, for me (I only have UT/USA), the UT landclass has too much city in it. As you can see at my site, I've started a project to cover New England with more accurate landclass. Being a VFR pilot, even the FSGenesis LC was not accurate enough for me in my hometown. But that is only because I am familiar with the area I fly in and wanted it very accurate. When I am flying over, say, Michigan, I couldn't tell the difference. I can tell you, it's pretty tedious using Google Earth to check every square of landclass and to spruce it up so it looks good. But back on topic, if you are a VFR flyer, the UT products are a MUST HAVE in my opinion. Having accurate water landmarks is very important to me. I'd get the others, but I just can't afford it at the moment. That being said, I also highly recommend the FSGenesis landclass project for the US. While I am redoing my local area, the FSGenesis landclass is a huge improvement over the default. I can't comment on the MyWorld product as I don't have it.Other things you will want to search for are anything by Holger Sandmann. He has two payware products Misty Moorings and Tongass Fjords, and tons of freeware available here at Avsim. His specialty is mesh and developing the scenery. They don't cover the whole world, but it will take you a loonngg time to explore it all.For performance reasons, I haven't made the jump yet, but many people rave over Active Sky for weather and Ultimate Traffic for AI.If you are looking for installation tips, you may want to head over to my site below, I've got a section on supporting FS there.Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-) Tom Perry
September 16, 200619 yr Author Hi,Thanks alot for your detailed answer, I now think I have the full picture on how all this works. I have downloaded all the FSGenesis mesh over night and will now also get MyWorld and then UT for my specific area that is Europe and hopefully this will give me a very nice looking virtual world to fly in!Another question, is it important in what order I install all this? My thinking is to install everything in this order, please correct me if I'm wrong.1. All the mesh files, starting with the 76m, then the 38m and 19m mesh2. MyWorld followed by UT Europe3. Ground Environment Pro
September 16, 200619 yr Author Hi Thomas and thanks for your input!I have now decided what to go for (see one of my other posts in this thread) and I can tell you Active Sky and Ultimate Traffic are both great products! Thanks for the invitation to your site, maybe I stop by for some installation tips :-)
