November 23, 20196 yr Currently I run a Dell 3415W monitor at 3440x1040 resolution on the display settings. Currently within the sim, I am running the following: FXAA off, 4xMSAA, AF 4x, Texture Res 2048x2048 and Resolution 1920x1080x32, Vsync off and Unlimited Frames with wide aspect on. My GPU is 6GB Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060. Right now, I found that this combo gives me good performance, but visually it is not good at all. I get great visuals in the sim if I run the in sim resolution at 3440x1440x32 but the performance is hit or miss. I am by no means technical but was hoping someone could give me some direction as to what combination of in sim settings and resolution settings I could do, along with the actual display settings to get better visuals while keeping performance up. My other sim settings are pretty mid range. Also, I primarily fly FSlabs and realize that is a taxing plane to fly. I am just trying to figure out if my current config could be hurting my experience or if that is the best I can get out of it. Thanks for you expertise! Also, this might be unrelated but for whatever reason I don't see certain text online and can only see it if I highlight it. November 23, 20196 yr Commercial Member It's normal you'll see bad quality when using a resolution different than your monitor native, since either the monitor or the video card will do some scaling, which on LCD displays will always result in loss of quality. On top of that, your monitor is 21:9, but you are using a 16:9 resolution so, in addition to the quality degradation caused by not using the native resolution, you'll also have some deformation due to the different aspect ratio. I'm afraid the solutions might not be what you want to hear: - If you like 21:9, a lower resolution display might be easier to deal with your video card. One with 2560 x 1080 res, which are quite cheap. - If you like the performance in 1920 x 1080, use a regular 1080p monitor, it will still be sharper than the current situation, but at 16:9 - If you don't want to change the monitor, you might to consider upgrading the video card, since the 1060 is a bit weak to drive your current display. November 23, 20196 yr Author What would you suggest if I keep my card and also my monitor for the time being? November 23, 20196 yr Commercial Member Switch resolutions. Do you have the option to run 1720x720? Cheers! Luke Kolin I make simFDR, the most advanced flight data recorder for FSX, Prepar3D and X-Plane.

November 23, 20196 yr Author Looks like in my display manager I can only do 1720x1440 and that makes it so the screen doesn't fit the wide display Intel Core i7 12700K (5.0GHz Max Boost Clock) 12-Core CPU 32GB G.Skill Performance DDR4 SDRAM 3600MHz Graphics Processor:12GB Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti, GDDR6x System 2TB Western Digital, NVMe M.2 Solid State Drive
November 23, 20196 yr Moderator @Zimmerbz, the native resolution of that monitor is 3440*1440. You must run it at the native resolution otherwise the image quality will be compromised. In the Display Options in P3D bottom-right make sure Wide-view Aspect Ratio is checked. That should ensure the display is not compromised. If the frame rates are too low the best option is to reduce scenery sliders so you put less workload on the GPU. But with an aircraft that is so demanding of resources you really need a more powerful graphics card. Unless you bought that monitor for other games it might have been better to choose a standard 16:9 one that has fewer pixels so places a lower demand on the GPU. Ray (Cheshire, England).
