Steam and FSX Boxed connection?

Featured Replies

So a long, long time ago, I bought FSX Gold edition- with fsx SP1, 2, and Acceleration. My friend bought the Steam edition, and we're now trying to play together.

I don't want to pay 25 bucks just to play with him (by buying Steam edition), so how would we fly together?

I know that LAN connect directly IP mode works on my FSX Gold, but not on his Steam edition.

Some ideas from this old web page - http://www.msfsgateway.com/online.html

Not listed is a newer software that I use - JoinFS - https://pmem.uk/joinfs/

These are for normal multiplayer flights.  More serious simmers tend to use services like VATSIM, IVAO, PilotEdge, and so on.

Sim: Prepar3D 5.2 (main) and Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020), CH Eclipse Yoke, Thrustmaster Airbus TCA Side Stick, CH Pro Throttle, CH Pro Pedals, Saitek Cessna trim wheel, TrackIR 5, SPAD.neXt running 3 Saitek Logitech panels, ButtKicker Gamer 2, Razer Naga Chroma gaming mouse

System: Intel i5-10600K CPU @ 4.10 GHz, Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Ti, 64GB DDR4 RAM @ 4200 MHz, ASRock Z490M Pro4, 2TB Intel NVMe SSD 660p, 3 monitors

Wait until a Steam sale.  You can probably pick FSX:SE for less than $10.

Do you know if there are any that don't require admin rights?

Due to a really long, complicated story, I can't install things with Admin rights, and there's nothing I can do about it. Literally.

I can't remember JoinFS ever asking me for admin rights.  Most add-ons don't require them... the only one I can think of that want me to run as administrator is SPAD.neXt.  Most of those networking software are freeware so it can't hurt for you to try to experiment with each one.

Got join FX installed on both of our computers. Thanks!

Also, if anybody is browsing this thread from the future, yes, JoinFS requires admin rights to install. Not to run, though.
