Quick Explanation of GNS/GPS

Featured Replies

I'm bad for tldr; , would someone give me a quick and easy idea what the difference between the two is?

GPS is a generic term... the Garmin GNS series is a GPS with integrated radios.

It has since been replaced by the GTN series.

GPS stands for Global Positioning System and refers to devices that receive coded satellite signals for determining a spatial position.  GPS devices include those you use handheld, such as to support hiking; those built into smart phone apps; those in use in automobiles, both portable and built-in; and units used in activities like aviation and marine use.

GNS is a product line of aviation GPS models designed to be mounted into instrument panels in aircraft.  Garmin ceased production of the final two models in the GNS product line in late 2011.  (GNS 430/GNS 530).  Garmin continues to produce and sell a variety of GPS models, otherwise  referred to as navigators, including the GTN, GNC, & GNX series; and one additional economy model that does bear a product name of GPS 175.

Did you mean instead differences between GNS and GTN?

If "tldr" in your first message means "too long didn't read" then search Youtube for videos instead of asking here.  Much of what is available here is like this.  User to user.  Takes time and effort to provide help so be willing to read and understand.
