November 29, 20196 yr Hi, I am thinking of trying Pilot2ATC, but I would like the copilot to automatically contact centers/tower during the flight. I read that he can switch the frequencies, but, once switched the frequency, will he also say "Center good morning, this is ...." etc.? Thank you. James Goggi
November 29, 20196 yr Commercial Member Yes, the copilot will respond to all calls and will initiate contact after a frequency change. The calls where you are requesting something must be initiated using SayIt, which manually invokes the copilot, or verbally by the pilot. On a typical IFR flight, there are only 5 or 6 such calls. November 30, 20196 yr Author Thanks, Dave. So, if you don't want to ask ATC anything, is it possible to have the copilot COMPLETELY deal with communications from lift off to touchdown, so that you, the pilot flying, have only to think of flying the airplane? James Goggi
November 30, 20196 yr Commercial Member You must initiate the 5 or 6 request type calls because the copilot does not know, for example, when you are ready for taxi or departure. But you can use SayIt for these and therefore fly the entire flight without speaking yourself....you just have to make the copilot speak using SayIt. The copilot does handle all the calls during the high workload times of approach and landing, so you can focus on flying. Edited November 30, 20196 yr by Dave-Pilot2ATC
December 3, 20196 yr What's more, I'd like to add, P2A works flawlessly even with the sim paused, so in the event that you have trouble finding the correct phrase (and they're not hard to find, but it could happen), you can give yourself all the time in the world to tell the co-pilot how to handle the communication. Example: I needed a change to the flight plan and I couldn't find/didn't have the time to find the correct phrase (it was somewhat unusual, but it was there!), combined with being in a somewhat busy phase of flight, so I just hit "pause" and finished faffing about with SayIt! until I managed to do it right (and I learned how to do it right for the next time). It really is an awesome program!
