When I migrated to ORBX, the instructions said to removed VFX Central.  I did, but several problems have emerged since then.  I wonder if I shouldn't have removed it.

I don't think so.  I removed VFX Central even though I haven't yet migrated and experienced no issues. 

Would suggest a uninstall and reinstall and see if that helps.
