screens going blank

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm new to X-plane since January & I have latest version 11.41.

I have been learning to take off/fly & land etc and all cool, but I have noticed recently after about 8-10 minutes of flying, my Garmin 530/430 screens on the Cessna 172 just go blank!

I have the alternator switch turned ON along with battery switch - I have a Honeycomb yoke.

Very annoying having filed a flight plan and going along nicely...then boom...screens go blank and plans are up in smoke!

Any help, ideas why this is happening?

Many thanks

Wedman

Welcome to the AVSIM forums!  It sure sounds like a lack of electrical power, but I don't have Xplane.  Are these Garmin units default to this aircraft or addons?  Any other electrical systems non-functional, like Comms or lights?

Hi Charlie,

Thanks for your reply, yes I've tried it a couple times more since I sent message and filed a flight plan with ATC....again all worked well for 10 mins or so, and then the two Garmin navigation systems screens went blank. They are default to the Cessna 172SP......When the Garmin screens went blank the ATC screen came up with "Aircraft power loss".....However I still had power to fly the Cessna, and landed safely as I had airfield "in sight".

The flaps lever worked and although showed "full flaps" it didn't feel like the usual raising of the plane when flaps are deployed.

Hope that gives you more info.

Cheers

Pretty much a power failure as expected.  Are you sure the alternator switch is in the on position?   Is there a gauge on the panel showing current or amperage being supplied?  Any chance that you have a "failure" programmed into your flight of the electrical system?

Even with an electrical failure, the engine should still run and the plane will remain flyable.

Here is something interesting from the Xplane site.  Hope you are not letting your engine idle for too long before takeoff!

Yes the alternator switch is definitely in the ON position, yes there is a panel showing AMP, and it stays pretty high all the time.

I've checked and found there are NO failures programmed in the system....It maybe while i'm setting up the flight plan and sorting ATC, the engine is running, so i'll cut engines , set things up then start and roll..see how that works! 🙂

Had a look at the link you supplied and yes some interesting things for me to check out....i'll let you know how things go when i try another flight.

thanks again for your help

Just another thought, make sure your power supply isn't flaking out on you.  I had a problem like this only worse. My computer would literally reboot in the middle of a flight and it was the PS.

Good luck.

Thank you.
