October 14, 200619 yr I want to add my voice to the number of people who are enjoying FSX. I just completed a flight from Victoria BC to Kelowna BC in the Grumman Goose using the gathering storm weather theme. Wow, it was one of my best flight sim experiences ever. ACES have really nailed the atmosphere and sense of immersion this time. The lighting and shading, colour palette and crisp, detailed textures, the smoothness and fluidity of motion, turbulence, cloudscapes, the sheer immensity of the sky and the towering clouds, just outstanding. Like Geofa, I have turned off autogen and also run with no water shaders (an aesthetic choice more than anything; I prefer the colour of the water without shaders) and managed to stay pegged at or near my limit of 28fps throughout the flight (with some brief dips into the high-teens, probably as resources are loaded) with most of the sliders to the right. The terrain detail with the terrain sliders up high is really quite something. It's going to be hard to go back to FS9 after this.Athlon64 3500+2GB DDRATI X850XTRunning FSX at 1280x960x32
October 14, 200619 yr "Your enthusiasm is contagious!"Oh God, this waiting is now becoming almost intolerable!Do I hear a momentary silence from the malcontented who have been quite deafening of late? Perhaps they are regrouping before trying again to assail us with a further onslaught of negativity. I hope not. Instead, I am praying Mitch's superb contribution will be giving them cause to pause and reconsider the wisdom of their actions. We all want this to work and one thing is certain: Knee jerk outbursts such as we have been reading over the past few days are not very helpful.Let's all settle down and get to know this latest beautiful incarnation of our favourite sim. The effort involved in its creation is clear for all to see and we should all be expressing our appreciation for the dedicated and loving attention expended to produce such a great product. As sure as night follows day I will be in that queue with my credit card on the 17th. However, FS9 will continue to be flown by me for some time to come as it has also evolved into a wonderful sim in its own right, and certainly does not deserve to be ditched out of hand. The knowledge that I will soon be installing a fresh and glorious FSX alongside its intricately customized predecessor just means I will soon be spoiled for choice, and I am feeling very happy and excited about that prospect :)Mike
