Anybody Else Order The FSX Book From Amazon UK

Featured Replies

Ordered "Microsoft Flight Simulator X: The Official Strategy Guide" at the same time as FSX (which came today). Just had a look and it seems that whilst the book shows as "Not Yet Dispatched" there is an estimated dispatch date of 13th October - at 23:54! :-lol I'm starting to thing that maybe something's gone wrong because it was in stock from 3rd October and I did select "as few deliveries as possible" so I'm not sure why it was sent with FSX. Oh well. Let's see what comes tomorrow. :-)

Still shows as "Not Yet Dispatched estimated dispatch date of 13th October". Very strange. Bye the way I'm not complaining - not yet anyway :-hah - I'm just curious to know if anybody else has got the same message. :-)

Strategy? What information would this book have that you can't find elsewhere ?I'm sorry , but anyone who buys these "strategy guides" are pure suckers. No offence, but I think most guys here are not beginnners and don't need it.

Sorry, did someone say something or is my earwax troubling me?

Because he ordered a strategy guide he's not an experienced simmer?. I'm sorry if I fail to see the logic in that. Maybe he is curious to what it contains and wants to own a piece of FS history. I see nothing wrong with that in the least. Hope it arrives soon Victor.;-)

>I'm sorry , but anyone who buys these "strategy guides" >are pure suckers. No offence, but I think most guys here>are not beginnners and don't need it.>>If more people had bought the book there would not be so many opinionated statements made here and elsewhere that I see and read. Also, many questions raised here on the forums would have been answered in the book if more people had bought it. I am no sucker and by no means a beginner so here are a few quotes from the book that might be helpful for everyone.Minimum CPU 1.0 GHz Recommended 2.8 GHz Better 3.6 GHz or higher Minimum Memory 256 MB Recommended 1 GB Better 2 GB or higher Minimum Video card 64 MB Recommended 256 MB Better 512 MB or SLI If you want FSX to really sing we recommend that you improve upon minimum requirements wherever possible. Arguably the most significant improvements can be made with at least one high-performance video card. Both ATI and NVidia make impressive cards that will improve the speed and visual presentation of FSX. We also suggest a system with over 1 GB of RAM. The following is a dream set of specifications for those who can afford it.3.4 Ghz Processor or higher2-4 GB RAMNVidia GTX 7800 512 MB video card x2 (2 cards for SLI configuration) or simular high-end ATI video card such as the X1900 512 MB ATI RadeonDisplay SettingsThis section allows you to set the level of visual quality. The main tradeoff here is between the quality of these settings and the frame rate you see when in the simualtor. If you need to get a higher frame rate, you MUST decrease the scenery detail, autogen, and even the amount of Traffic which includes artificial intellegent watercraft, ground traffic vehicles and AI Planes.Contrary to what you might think, this is true no matter how powerful your computer is. Flight Simulator X is designed to perform on high-powered hardware that is not yet available to the general public. This is so even three or four years down the road FSX can still challenge even the most robust hardware while providing a stunning simulation. If you have a fast computer don't fall into the trap of maxing-out all your sliders because you are in no doubt going to bring your machine to its knees. If you want to help your computer, lock the frame rate at 30 frames per second which is optimal frame rate for the human eye. If you have a slower computer set and lock the frame rate down towards 17 FPS. These lower settings will still provide a nice simulation experience.END of QUOTESOf course you will have to buy the book if you want to know what addon flight controls, joysticks, additional hardware, etc. were tested with FSX and which sliders can be max or not max plus all the other valuable information not needed by everyone that you are refering to.

Fair point. Rush of blood on my part. Sorry good sirs. Sometimes I have these forum moments. /makes cup of tea.....
