Prevent Win 10 from detecting communication activity?

Featured Replies

This is a minor annoyance but it is what it is.  I use the Win 10 app Groove Music to play music while flying and it really works well for this, especially since the Win 10 keyboard I'm using lets me turn music on and off with a button press.  Under Sound Properties in Win 10, on the Communications tab, one has the option having the OS do nothing when it detects communications type audio is playing, or having it automatically lower the volume of other audio while communication is playing.  At first glance this doesn't seem bad as one might for example be able to hear ATC better as the OS interprets it as communication activity so lowers competing audio.  So in this situation the music will be turned down in volume, and when the communication audio ends the music volume is restored, more or less.   The problem is it often takes much longer after the communication activity has ended, and it just messes up the ambience of having background music play, and I think other audio for example internal sounds in P3D can be affected.

So what I do is when Windows boots, I go every time to the Sound Properties, Comm tab, and manually reselect the 'Do Nothing' option and all's well....until the next reboot when it wants to default to lowering the non-comm audio.  I can't find a way to have it default to "Do Nothing".  Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Noel

Glad you brought this up, because this has been an infernally aggravating issue with Windows 10 x64 Pro 1909 Build for me. To get the Realtek on-board soundcard to fire up, I have to go to a radio station, initiate play there, and only then will a P3Dv4.5 aircraft come alive with sound. The minute I close the sim down, and want to say watch a YouTube clip...............you guessed it, Windows has once again screwed up the sound. Oh yes, I can see the soundwaves on Manage Sound Device, in Settings, but zilch sound out.  Once again, that radio stations Radio Player has to be summoned. It is so, so damned annoying. Never had a single issue whatsoever, same soundcard, with Windows 7 x64 Pro. Are those xxxx at Redmond in touch with the real world?😡

I misstated where the control was, it's in Sound Control Panel or something like that.  What's bizarre is when you open it up after boot, you will see it's set at Do Nothing (if that's where I last set it), but it doesn't behave that way until you choose another option, then choose Do Nothing again, then it stays that way til the next boot.  I suppose I should report it to MS as it's too easy to not notice this so they may not know about it.

If you have hibernation enabled you could just hibernate your PC or put it to sleep and the settings and programs that you had will be intact when the PC is turned back on. Not ideal I know but it will work.

I know where that Sound appplet in Control Panel is, and I have the very same 'Do Nothing' box ticked, but does it follow the script? Not a cat's chance in hell!! Typical MS screw-ups😡

Good Luck reporting anything to MS! They have been deaf 'n dumb to users for eons.

You know that's not a bad idea thanks.  Prior to v4 and w/ the old sys I would always reboot prior to most flights just to get everything back to freshly initialized to get every megabyte of memory available but perhaps that's just not required now.  It's not a big deal to have to do what I do w/ the sound it's just another click or two to make but still it's clearly a bug of sorts.

I guess reporting would be a waste of everyone's time!
