I'm unable to open the config manager for the falcon today... I get a dialogue to instal .NET framework 3.5, but the install fails with an error...

I tries to download 3.5 components but then fails... Seems .NET 4.8 is installed since its windows 10 2004 build... so you can't install 3.5... I wonder why its blocking

I don't really know anything about .NET, but if it was me as a last resort I might try uninstalling .NET4.8, installing .NET 3.5, and then try reinstalling .NET 4.8.

You could probably get a better suggestion on the AVSIM Windows 10 forum.

Your suggestion worked... it seems 3.5 must be installed first
