Not Since Fly! 2...

Hmmm .. you are not a real world pilot but have PPL, SEL with complex endorsement .. so how am I supposed to read this that you got all those ratings in the virtual world of flying. Am I missing something ??Sorry Michael, I guess what I meant was I'm not a pilot as my job. I'd like to be however, and have been hitting the books hard for the last year and a half.Jeff

Prop wash I think is implemented, and controlled by the P factor. You can disable gyro effect, move the torque all the way to the left, and see for yourself. I did some tests just a few minutes ago, the prop wash effect is there.

"I only have a Private Pilot's License, Single Engine Land, with a complex endorsement, so I don't know too much about flight dynamics and that sort of thing" Jeff I don't mean to be a jerk here, but I'm going through my PPl now and to do this you learn about flight dynamics, ect. So I'm sorry but your statements make no sense at all. Plus your comment in the post below about "I mean, I don't have a job as a pilot, I just hold......" I'm sorry bud, but your credits don't add up here bud. Dan

Hi Dan,I don't think you're a jerk, infact it's my fault for not making myself clear. It's quite simple actually. I mispoke if you will. I have the above qualifications that I've mentioned, yet I do not fly for a living, rather I fly for pleasure, recreation, a hobby. As far as instrument stuff is concerned, I've had a few lessons, I've flown a couple of ILS approaches, right now it's just a little too expensive, I'm in the military, I'm sure you understand I could be making more. I chose this path in life, and I won't get into the politics, but I thought that it was a good decision. Also, I agree with you, aerodynamics are quite a large part of the PPL syllabus, but with the small amount of flying experience I have, I have to be honest and fair when replying to folks on this forum, I honestly can't say whether or not the flight modelling is better or not, because I've flown only 1% of the aircraft included with FSX, which would be the 172. Other real word aircraft I've flown are the 172RG, a Piper Cherokee, a Piper Warrior (or was it Archer, long time ago anyhow), a TBM (can't remember), a 152, and a 182. Does that makes sense Dan? Somtimes I have a hard time explaining myself clearly. Also, good luck with your pilot's license, let us know how that goes. Edit, One other thing Dan, you seemed a little confused so I'll be happy to explain, please realize that as a Private Pilot, you can not legally receive profit for flying an aircraft, meaning you can not benefit financially flying with a PPL, in order to make money flying an aircraft you need a commercial ticket.Jeff

Hey Dan-I've been flying for 17 years and have a comm/multi/inst. rating.I'm still learning about flight dynamics and everything else-I think I understand exactly what he meant....http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpg

WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!

I'm not dumping on FSX, I like my copy. Calm down.I tested as follows: I loaded a Piper Cub under default weather, set the parking brake, advanced the throttle, and tried to raise the tail. I couldn't. Then I loaded a C172 and tried to raise the nose with the parking brake set. I couldn't. I've seen the Cub lift its tail in real life (Well, a video of it), and I've also personally banged the tailskid of a 152 on the runway (at zero airspeed) by pulling far too hard while attempting my first soft-field takeoff. I can't do either in FSX, so I think it doesn't simulate prop wash over the elevator, or at least not at zero airspeed.

No, not even a scratch! I sure felt stupid though. My instructor wasn't pleased either. We were on a paved runway (3MY), and she was explaining "All you have to do is hold some back pressure while you take off..." and demonstrated as she was speaking, except for pushing the power in. She pulled the yoke almost to the stop, so I assumed that was what I was supposed to do. I took the yoke where she had it, added a bit more back pressure, then pushed the power in before she had a chance to do much about it. The nose came up before I could react to it, because I didn't know the prop wash was strong enough to have any effect with no airspeed. (I was expecting to hold the pressure until the wheel started to lift and then back off) The instructor already knew what was coming and was pushing the nose back down as soon as it lifted. It hit the tail but not very hard. Just enough to get a nice, loud "BANG!" out of it and scare the wits out of me. It didn't even set off the ELT (which is in the tail.) There is a small skid attached to the tail tiedown loop, and that's what hit pavement. I assume it bent a little, but I couldn't tell. We decided since it didn't hit very hard and there was no visible damage it was best to vacate the area before anyone saw us. :( I got a "Don't ever do that again!" type speech afterward. It was funny afterward but I wouldn't advise anyone else do this.In my defense, (to date) that is the only part of the airplane I have allowed to touch the ground, other than the tires.

You want to enjoy good flight dynamics and learn to what extent a PC can simulate a good flight dynamics? Try them out. www.condorsoaring.com Mind you this is a simulator and not a game and if you love flying you wont be disappointed but its only glider flying no heavy powered stuff

Been there, done that, and still flying.

>Yup-tail draggers are a pleasure now.You mean three-point landings are actually possible now ?

I was surprised the first time I encountered some thermals/turbulence in the 172. Well done! Unfortunately, they didn't get slipping right :( But hopefully the addition of thermals and ground effect will make for some great addon planes.
