October 22, 200619 yr (And maybe X-Plane)Not since Fly! 2 and perhaps X-Plane have I enjoyed the flight modelling of a simulator. In Fly2, you may recall the realistic "feel" of turbulence in the air with a light airplane. The slight lofting up with a touch of yaw thrown in. The occasional CHOP down and to the left... Thankfully - after ignoring the temptation to press SHIFT-Z, I did some flying and found that some of the nuances of flight have been included in FSX, which weren't there in ANY previous Microsoft Flight Sim version. I'm sure the cynics will have something to say about the timespan since Fly2's release - Debbie Downer to you. The point is that the leading FS franchise has taken steps to bring some of the better features of these other simulators to itself, and I think this is one of the best things of the new sim...Take a light single up for a short cross country flight. I think you might find the experience a good one! (Don't touch SHIFT-Z!) -Greg(Not a licensed pilot, but I have 15-20 hrs training + ride-alongs to base the thought on)
October 22, 200619 yr Have to agree 100%! One big disadvantage of FS9 and it's predecessors has always been the impression of flying "on rails" - compared to the rather shaky experience of real world VFR flying in light planes.I really enjoy what ACES have done to improve the perception of turbulence and unstable air in general. By dynamically adjusting the viewpoint in the VC, they managed to create a much more realistic environment... those head motions resulting from g-load changes and accelerations are seriously cool! In my opinion this feature really makes up for the lack of peripheral vision in a sim. MIGHTY BIG IMPROVEMENT.Oh, and did anyone else notice that we finally have GROUND EFFECT? (yay!)That said, could we please get back to more fascinating framerate issues?! ;-) Holger(FSX user since 5 hours)

October 22, 200619 yr YES AGREE,I've been saying to all the critics for a while now that FSX is a much superiour simulator assuming flying is the main objective here. For me it certainly is.yes, all aspects fly better and yes at last a more realistic ground effect.Well done ACES

October 22, 200619 yr Agreed as well. The flight modelling is very good and the weather engine seems to be excellent. If you have never flown a mission with a glider, do that and try to catch a thermal (and many of the thermal variations). It's amazing.Pat
October 23, 200619 yr I agree 100%! Landing a 172 in a crosswind feels very realistic now! I actually feel like I can use this for training!
October 23, 200619 yr Anyone know if they did anything to include the effects of Prop wash on the rudder, too?Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)N15802 KASH '73 Piper Cherokee Challenger 180 Tom Perry
October 26, 200619 yr You mean I bought a Flight Simulator? I bought it so I could see elephants and birds. (tongue in cheek) Right on folks. Craig
October 26, 200619 yr Hi Diseagrav,You made this comment, but you didn't really explain your reasoning. From what I understand this was concerning flight modelling in FSX.>>I just tested, and it does not appear so.< Jeff Commercial | Instrument | Multi-Engine Land AMD 5600X, RTX3070, 32MB RAM, 2TB SSD
October 26, 200619 yr Hey, someone here a few days ago reported icing conditions affected the planes dynamics. Can anyone confirm this?
October 26, 200619 yr >I am not a real world pilot, I only have a Private Pilot's>License, Single Engine Land, with a complex endorsement, Hmmm .. you are not a real world pilot but have PPL, SEL with complex endorsement .. so how am I supposed to read this that you got all those ratings in the virtual world of flying. Am I missing something ??Michael J.http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/for...argo_hauler.gif Michael J.
