The version available on different platforms isn’t guaranteed to be updated at the same time.

Chuck gave the example of DLC (a very common situation with flightsim addons), but can also apply to the core sim eg DCS from their website versus Steam.

The safest option is to buy from Microsoft.

 

I can't talk for Steam, but if you buy MFS from Microsoft, Amazon, CDkeys, Game, Aerosoft, then it will all get updated at the same time.

Every time I've automatically had my cost adjusted on the order acknowledgement email. I have never had to ask.
