MS2020 Inherent Stability?

Featured Replies

Correct me if I'm far out in the field. But the previous sim is built on a 32-bit system, and that is precisely one of the many reasons why we experienced OOM (Out of Memory) crash, etc. Because the sim did not handle many accessories for third-party add-ons that had to be added limited to the 32-bit system (limited to 4 GB of RAM) than the current 64-bit system (which uses all access to RAM). This sim is built on a 64-bit system and will use all available memory (RAM), CPU processing power and GPU processing power, something third-party developers also get the opportunity to use now without the simulator being unstable. So my conclusion is that this will be a more stable simulator / game, than all other releases from MS because they have coded the new sim in a new new place than before and at the same time use some of the old programming codes they will now definitely work perfectly on the new platform.

Whilst this is true, you can still bomb a program with sloppy programming routines and iffy practices, but some of the necessity to do this was because of the limitations of the sim's capabilities to do certain things. It's probably in large part the reduced requirement to do these programming dances to get things done which will add to the stability as much as the reduced possibility of VM addressing issues. Sometimes your 'completely stable in testing' add-on can come unstuck when it meets other TPD stuff and throws up unusual ghosts in the machine.

So the expanded hardware abilities does not mean TPDs can abdicate all responsibility when making stuff and not be mindful of prudent programming practices. It's not merely a TPD's ability to research and programme a fancy behaviour in an add-on aeroplane which sets it apart from another TPD, it's how elegantly they manage to do this too.
