FS2020 Update Policy/Procedure

Featured Replies

I am curious if anyone knows how updates to FS2020 will be handled:

- Will these be automatic updates, like with Windows 10?  (In other words, will MSFS update itself if there is an active internet connection, even if you don't run the sim?)

- Will the user have an option to NOT update the sim?  I am asking this because with FSX/P3D, if you used add-ons, some no longer worked after an update (ORBX Objectflow, for example). Therefore, the user may prefer to defer an update until the 3rd party developer will update the software for the newest sim version.

- Any hint on how frequent the updates will be?  Will these be small frequent updates, or major infrequent updates at a 3+ month interval?

Any infos would be appreciated.

The simulator will check for updates at every start-up, so they are pretty much automatic with no option not to update I'm afraid. The major content updates will be rolled out every 2-3 months, but it is very likely they will be pushing out smaller patches and hotfixes a lot more often, especially right after launch.

Keep in mind that all "add ons" are isolated from the main sim files, so they should not be affected.
