Now we know these cards will be available in November, will Microsoft show screenshots of FSX with DX 10?

NO, because FSX was written with DX9 code and no DX10 code exists yet!ACES didn't have any DX10 hardware to develop it on so how can they show screens of a DX10 patch that doesn't even exist yet?Come back in 6 months.......

Errrr,The post was implying that DX10 cards will be ready in Novemeber, hence we should see screenshots there or thereabouts. It will still take months before we see any DX10 screenshots.I fully understood what was being said.....

Unless MS ACES have been improbably clever with the code, there is a heap of work ahead to make a DX10 version of a DX9 based game. It's not fifteen minutes with a crayon designing a new box. Think months, not weeks. I work with sound a lot, and even though nothing is changing too much with sound under DX10, I still have months of work to do checking compatibility and possible bugs and flaws. Also, just look at the posts from the team in these forums: They haven't even got reliable hardware themselves yet, so it's obviously impossible for any screenshots to come out until the leg work has been done. Vista might have DX10 code, but that doesn't mean the hardware exists to make use of it. The first Nvidia DX10 card doesn't release until November, but is it a true DX10 card? The jury is out on that one. Remember too, there are other problems with FSX as it currently stands, and I'm sure we would all rather these were dealt with as the first priority or else none of us will be here to enjoy a DX10-based FSX! Exactly. Forget about any DX10 & FSX right now. FSX is a DX9 title, end of story. You may see some increase in performance because of the increased architectue required by the new DX10 cards, but you will not see any change in the way FSX looks. The FSX DX10 'patch' is in actuality a large undertaking and not a switch that can be turned on the moment DX10 cards are available. I'm going to get the fastest DX10 card available as soon as its available, and hopefully in a few months there will be a DX10 game to use it with. As of now, there are a total of '0'. Aces cannot develop for something that they don't have and if I were a betting man, I'd wager 2:1 that you won't see a release of a complete DX10 overhaul of FSX until October of NEXT YEAR.

Actually, it is possible to program for DX10 without hardware. It's called a software rasterizer. Crysis is being developed with it right now. I'm sure ACES has been playing around with the possibilities even without the hardware, but they will not know what kinda of performance they will get until hardware is out. Actually, I think the NVidia G80 chipset is still up in the air if it will support Unified Shaders or have separate pipelines. We'll have to wait and see from NVidia what's the real story. On the point of the only hardware the actually improves FPS is a CPU is not exactly correct. There are many functions like shaders and such that are done by video cards. The thing about DX10 is the technology is more efficient with regards to the operating system overhead. Right now DX9 uses about 40% of the CPU just for the overhead of running DX9. DX10 will utilize only about 20%, so that should have an impact as well.

It's exciting to see that the cards will finally hit the market.However, we won't see any DX10 functionality in quite some time. Vista will still render the desktop in DX9 compatibility mode until its patched to render Aero in DX10, according to a recent interview with one of the DX10 gurus. Same goes for FSX.

I don't think the op is asking for a DX10 patch or DX10 funtionality next week! :-)He was asking if it was likely there could be any screenshots coming. All we've had so far (due to no hardware being available at the time)is one artists impression. Now that a supposed DX10 card will be available in November then perhaps MS will be able to do some DX10 work. Yes a full DX10 patch is likely to be months away but, then again, the first FSX shots came out around 9 months before its release.Again, I'm sure he wasn't expecting anything. he was just curious.

Guys, it's unreasonable to assume that a big corporation like MS hasn't had access to final Nvidia DX10 silicon for weeks or up to a month already. This card has already been RTM now for at least 2 weeks in order to be in stores for a hard launch on Nov 7th. MS is not waiting at BestBuy with the rest of us peons for a midnight sale on Nov. 7th to get their hands on this card. They already have it and have had access to it for weeks now and also handily had access to the design and performance specs from the beginning. It's just plain silly to believe otherwise....
