Departure & Approach Briefing

Featured Replies

Hello,

According to the manual, there should be an approach briefing (called via a voice command):

VOICE COMMAND: “ARE YOU READY FOR THE APPROACH BRIEF?” “ANY QUESTIONS?”

IMPORANT: DO NOT SKIP THE ABOVE TWO (APPROACH BRIEF) PHRASES AS THEY PUT FS2CREW INTO “DESCENT MODE”, WHICH IS REQUIRED FOR MANY CALLOUTS TO PLAY DURING THE DESCENT.

But I have not found a button command to trigger the approach briefing or the departure briefing. Is there one?.

Please advise.

Christian.

There is no audio recorded brief in the Airbus version... that's because an Airbus brief done properly involves reading basically everything you see on the various pages on the MCDU.  It involves reading back a ton of numbers.

Technical and practical considerations prevent modelling that.

Thx, Bryan. I had read that in the manual but the manual also makes reference to a series of events occurring after the (voice) command “ARE YOU READY FOR THE APPROACH BRIEF?” “ANY QUESTIONS?” and, apparently, there are whole load of actions taken by the PM for the decedent phase after this command. My question is: how do I get all of these actions that are triggered by the (voice) approach command to work on the button version?. Or are there no commands triggered by the approach brief and the manual in incorrect in that sense?.

Please let me know.

Best regards,

Christian.

Best regards,

Those are for Voice Control.

In Button Control, they don't exist.

There are no actions by the PM.

When you pass control to the FO in cruise, he becomes the PF.  He's now focused on flying the plane.

You become the PM... and you're job is to keep your heads down and setup the plane for the arrival using the "Build the Mexican Hat" flow.

Once you've set things up, you take control back, and you're the PF again.

Thanks, again, Bryan. Now it is crystal clear.

When I become the PM and on with preparing the approach/arrival/etc and FS2crew becomes the PF, does it actually do anything?, tea maybe?. I've waited for the tea and biscuits but so far, they have not turned up... 🙂

Apologies for the ignorance, but what does the "build the mexican hat" flow mean?.

All the best.

Christian.

Will do. Cheers...

Edit: I went mad looking for a mexican hat in the manual until I did a search and found (page 27 of the tutorial) - for those who want to check it - :

A useful acronymic to help the PF setup for the approach is: PABBA P = PLAN MODE A = ATIS B = BUILD THE MEXICAN HAT (PAGE CHECKING ORDER ON THE MCDU: F-PLAN -> RAD NAV -> PROG -> PERF -> FUEL PRED -> SEC F-PLN) B = BRIEF THE APPROACH A = APPROACH CHECKLIST (NORMALLY DEFFERED TO LATER IF YOU ARE AT CRUISE ALTITUDES).
