Anyone solved the 1722 Install Error for FSX yet?

Featured Replies

I had the Activation Error a couple of day ago and got in the re-install FSX loop. I re-installed WinXP Pro/SP2 and FSX and everything was fine again. The only change I made was installing Flight1's 172R. After many graphics problems I was getting complete system dump and reboot everytime I quit FSX. Eventually I got a message saying that I had to re-install FSX. When attempting to re-install I got the 1722 again right at 99.99% of the install. Then I get a 1603 when trying to un-install FSX. I don't want to re-install WinXP again.I'll call Microsoft Support when I have a couple of hours to spend on this. Just checking to see if they have a fix for it yet or if anyone has found a workaround or fix.Regards,

Unfortunately, not that I'm aware of. I've tried everything I can think of (including running a registry cleaner) and nothing seems to work. I think we're at the mercy of MS on this one since I suspect it has something to do with hidden file changes made as part of their copy protection. It's unfortunate that they seem to be preventing quite a few people who purchased the software from installing it.

Hi, Yesterday there was a tred here with about a few hundred people waiting for an answer to this problem and today it's gone and no clue as to what happened or when we get to install FSX since all we're left with are two worthless DVD until someone fixes the install thing. Is Microsoft working to fix it?

Hey, thanks guys. I guess I'll just sit and wait until a solution is found. I would hate to rebuild XP again, only to end up at this spot.Regards,

Update:I took a look at the new Microsoft FSX Support Site and followed the steps to Clean Boot the PC and delete all %temp% files. I then installed while still in Clean Boot mode and it still failed with error 1722.So, don't waste your time with this particular fix if you are attempting to successfully re-install and are getting the 1722 error.I'm sure something will come up soon.

Microsoft is indeed working on this. I have spent 3 days talking to a rep that is trying to find what is causing this. He spent 3 hours yesterday in my computer while FSX was loading trying to find the problem.I give them A for effort. This should not have happened to begin with but it did and MS is trying to find the cause.Joe Watsonhttp://home.comcast.net/~raptor67/Joe_W/Joe_sig.jpg

Well Joe,You are lucky that you got called back! Meanwhile for the rest of us it would be nice if MS acknowledge that it is a known problem and they are working on it instead of us all clogging up their support lines in 4 hour cues waiting for someone to answer and the lie to us and say that the servers are down and they will call us back in 72 hours (AHEM!) because it's easier than telling us that they know about it but really have no clue how to fix it yet! That would not be good for the stock price though would it???? They really need to get a grip and sort this out, I would hope that this is a priority for MS and more than just ACES are working on it but somehow I think just those poor guys who are working 24/7 to get MS out of the sticky brown stuff!

Hi all, Yes there is a problem I had to reinstall both win xp pro and fsx and let me say there is no joy ! I think the people having the problem are the people who had the demo installed and some how the demo did not uninstall properly. Still trying to clean up windows but last I checked both xp and fsx are working again. After the Bombay trip and back nothing left to (lost for words)tony

I got a return call (the 3rd) from Microsoft on Friday while I was at work. I'd tell you what he said on the message, but I couldn't understand any of it. I could call back and wait on hold for another 2-3 hours to find out the situation (likely "we're still working on it), but I have since reinstalled XP & FSX to fix the 1722 errors so I can't really be bothered to do the MS tech support routine again.I hadn't heard that the FSX Demo caused these problems, but that sounds like a possibility in my case. I had the demo & uninstalled it prior to loading FSX the first time around.

I hope they will fix it soon.

With the help of one of the Flight Simulator Team members, I was finally able to get past the error 1722 problem at the end of installation and have been enjoying FSX for the last day. The problem was fixed by using a special tool provide to me by MS. I was asked not to share or post the program that they provided (I assume it has something to do with the copy protection scheme) and I'm going to comply with that request since the person I was working with was so helpful. Anyone who is still having the error 1722 during reinstallation should send an email to [email protected] and he'll try to help you individually until a solution for general use is available.
